yep it was to be used for coal and water for the steam engines then they went to oil and it was never used. Now it is known as the big pigeon roost.

Phillip worked on the N&W right out of high school. Says it was used to hold water to fill the steam engines. Sometimes they had "mail hooks" on them to pick the mail up as it went by.

We have a similiar structure in neighboring village. Tried to tell Grandkids what it was for but they had no clue. Steam engines in their view is something in movies!
