Hello, I recently acquired a Canon 7D to replace my 20D and am a bit frustrated with focus issues I'm having with autofocus. I have read the appropriate manual sections, watched youtube videos and have taken off the 19 points of focus. How is the best way to get a group shot of 8-20 people and have them all in focus?
Thanks!
Stop down the aperture. Doing so will increase the depth of field.
Use on portate and take repets

I also own a 7d and love it. Depending on how many rows you have use about and f8, use center spot focus, and focus on the center row. This always works good for my wedding photos.
The 7D offers several focusing modes and several metering modes as well. It can be confusing at times. My suggestion will follow the previous ones: use a tripod and reduce the Aperture
(F11 or F16 ). That way your depth of field will be very deep.
Another suggestion might be to practice a bit with friends or objects at different distances. Go to your back yard and take several pictures of several people ( some at 10 feet, some at 20 ft some at 30 feet). Start at F4, then F5.6 then F8 ect...
Looking at the results will tell you how wide your DOF is at the different apertures.
That is the beauty of Digital, you can practice and fine tune your skills at no cost. Trying to experiment during a critical shoot is not such a great idea ....
I just got one too, good info
