My brother lives in England and is crazy over these old locomotives...I will have to ask him if he knows this place, looks like not many do as I don't see crowds! Perhaps you went early. Great photos and thanks for posting them. My brother will probably thank you to :-)

I had my panasonic fz28 Bridge Camera to thank for that. It was set on intelligent auto...the hardest work I had to do was to make sure nobody stood in the way and then press the shutter button!!.

Yes Jazz, early morning and when kids are at school is the best time to go. 10 miles the other way from where I live is the Town of Darlington and it has a rail museum which houses the "Locomotion 1" this was the first locomotive used to run the first passenger train on 27th sept 1825 between Darlington and Stockton-on -tees.

Whether its coal, wood, natural gas, or nuclear, it still seems that steam powers the world.

Thank you Doddy for the additional information - I'll be sure to pass that along to my brother also. I remember seeing a program over here about British Rail in the 1960's and it showed them being broken up for scrap, terrible, thankfully this one from 1825 survived. And thank goodness for those enthusiasts who spend so much time restoring these beautiful old engines.

I heard from my brother, never been to Shildon but I suspect it won't be long before he makes a visit :-) He said he wondered where the Stirling had gone, whatever that means! Thanks for the site link krgatigm, it's a great one...could do without seeing Blair though :-)
