sony rx 100 - are you happy with it?

I have read mostly positive reviews of the sony rx100 - 20 mp, large sensor, compact size. As with any product, there are also people who are unhappy with it. What do those of you who have it think? Is the image quality really superior? Is there a problem with focusing? What are the pros and cons?

Great camera, I shoot Nikon and Sony DSLR's and use the RX-100 a general purpose take anywhere camera when I am not luging around my DSLR. It performs great in low light and fits in the pocket easily even with the aftermarket hand grip and filter attachment. The picture I attached was taken with this camera (I used CS6 to give it the oil painted look). I don't have any negatives besides the price of the camera.

For my main photo work, I use NIKON, but there are times when I just don't won't to carry all that gear with me, so I invested in what I thought was a respectable P&S after many weeks of trawling through reviews.
I've used mine for about 8 or 9 months now, I carry it every where I go, it fits in any pocket on any Item of clothing I possess, its a stunning camera and the image quality is outstanding.
If you are a PIXEL PEEPER, you may find some obscure reason to not like it!!
Most point and shoots have a built in flash, the RX100 is a point & shoot and does have a decent built in flash.
It also gives you full manual control over your shooting.
Most of the gripes I've seen come from those that want the ability to add a External flash and electronic view finder, but in MY opinion, this counteracts its compactness and ability to carry in any pocket.
I believe it should be taken for what it is, A POINT & SHOOT, an excellent one at that!!!!

I you have not already done so, suggest you go to Amazon.com, search on Sony RX 100, and peruse the reviews. Some of them are well done, and make excellent points.

I've had my RX100 for a few months now, and love it. I'm waiting for the grip to arrive from China and hoping that makes the handling a bit better, I find it a slippy little sucker and I'm worried about dropping it - too expensive to do that. My main camera is an Olympus OMD E-5 and I find it difficult to tell the difference in quality of the pics, sometimes the Sony is better. I would prefer a shoe to attach a viewfinder on as I dislike shooting with arms outstretched, but as noted, that would take away from the compactness of the camera. Otherwise, great camera!

The camera pretty much rocks! Image and build qulity are both exceptional.
There's only one thing that bugs me and DPReview mentioned this as well. There's a ring around the excellent Carl Zeiss lens that adjusts aperture, shutter speed, etc depending on what setting your using. The ring is free-wheeling because it has no click detents. For a P&S that goes for ~$650, I would think this is easy enough to include.
Other than that, there isn't another camera in its class that even comes close.

One reason is because the ring can also be used as a manual focus ring, a zoom, etc. You wouldn't want a click ring for those functions. I think the ring will make an audible click for aperture and shutter speed, but not an "actual" click.

As I have stated previously, I have the RX-100 & I love that little sucker! Having said that, I wish I would have waited for the RX-100 M2. It has two major changes: an articulated screen & a hot shoe that allows the addition of Sony's EXCELLENT EVF viewfinder. I have this finder on my NEX-5N & RX 1. I'm an old fart who really doesn't like composing with an LCD screen.

I have the RX 100 and am delighted with it. It has full manual control and can shoot raw too. However, what I think makes it really special are the excellent auto modes; Sony has done a great job with the internal processing. After all, this is a pocketable, point and shoot camera, and many a time you just want to bring it out and shoot without taking time to set up manual. I've done this on many occasions and am amazed with the results, better than anything else I've used on full auto. The price is up there, but so is the value, it's worth every penny.

While I normally shoot aperture priority I have to admit that I use the Intelligent Auto function when I'm in a hurry and the lighting is fairly "normal". The shots usually come out looking fantastic.
