does anyone have a great backpack that they would like to share the pro's and/or con's. I am in the market to purchase one. I am considering one which I could slide my laptop in also. :/

I use the Explorer backpack. I like it, it holds a lot and has separate compartment for a laptop.

I use the LowePro Trekker. Pro is also the con: It zips on the side facing your back which limits your access and anyone else's. The laptop wouldn't fit. I get my camera, flash units, three lenses, and accessories in there with room to spare.

I have a Lowepro Fastpack 350 and it has a side entrance so you can grab the camera and put it back without having to take it all the way off.It carries my 17.3 laptop and D7000 +2 lenses, 2 flashes, battery pack for vertical grip and still has room for a large tele.
It is overhead size for flying but watch the weight!.The only con to me is it doesn't have straps on the side for a tripod.Check it out at B&H.Only cost's 112.00.Good luck!

I purchased the Aktiv Pak camera/laptop combo bag, just a couple of months ago and I'd actually like to sell it. I paid $63 plus S&H, and it's a great bag, but I am only 5'1" tall, and don't have a LOT of equipment needing that big of a bag. I thought it would be a great bag to take on the plane as I visit my daughter in North Dakota, but that would not allow me to take anything else as a carry on. Anyone interested in this bag, which is like new, I will sell it and ship it for $50.

My go to bag for walking around is a split between the Domke F2, and the Lowepro Fastpack 100. I've never had a problem with either, with the exception of having to carry my sling for monopods, and tripod with the Domke.

I also have the Tamrac Adventure 9. When I shoot, I usually have a couple primes, a 70-200 2.8 IS, 2 bodies, 2 large flashes, and a mess of CF cards, LED panels, batteries, filters, quick ref pocket guides, laptop, wires, and a bag of pens small notebook, etc. Everything fits in the bag but it is insanely heavy. No tripod support, but it is VERY sturdy. I would not recommend it for hiking around when it's loaded. But a good pack if you need it.

The main con for me with the Adventure 9 is the half compartment up top. I would rather have the extra space for gear and compartments. My next bag will be top to bottom gear pockets and an outside sleeve for a larger sketch pad or book.

airlines now allow you to carry-on a speciality bag (camera, laptop, etc.) in addition to your personal carry-on.)

I carry varying amounts and types of equipment, lunch and coffee, some time even a change of clothes, I use a regular ordinary day pack, inside all sensative equipment is in padded cases, camera, spare lenses, even a flash kit, get mine from B&H Photo Optec brand, camera cover is like a never ready case that come completely off, helps if I'm carrying the camera out in the rain but roll up in a wad in the bag when not in use, I do not like to advertise that i am carrying expensive equipment either so the brands on the day pack are unimpressive

Shape shifter by Think Tank is the best backpack ever. holds a laptop, 2 long lens, 2 Ds Mk III bodies, 2 short lens and a host of other stuff. Fits ANY aircraft.
