Spooky or not, it is her eyes and smile that first grabs me...didn't even notice the hair for a few seconds...nice job!

Terrific shot, love the hair and the lighting. I don't see much difference between the two shots, flipping back and forth. However, in both, her skin tones on my monitor are almost a corpse-like shade of very pale green. As you referenced the Addams Family, maybe it's intentional, but in my mind, not very flattering, no offense to your beautiful daughter.

The portrait does capture her eyes in a wonderful manner, really striking. But I can't get past the skin tone, tho again, could just be my monitor.

I agree. I can't see a difference between the two. Your daughter is beautiful as is your picture. Would like to see a little color in the cheeks as she has beautiful cheekbone structure. Just out of curiosity, what does your daughter say about the photo? Does she like it as is or does she offer suggestions as well? Again, I like what you have done!

Thanks for commenting everyone.

Sometimes my daughter likes the photos sometimes not so much. She know if we do a sessin that it won't be you everyday photo. I had originally way over-cooked this photo. I had softened the skin and it looked way to corpse like. I ended up removing the softening but still left a little too much green in the photo for my liking. The green was more evident in the jpeg file than the original photoshop file. I ended up pulling back the greens in the third shot posted. She liked the final version.
One of the things I like about posting here is it helps me get an idea of what the downsized converted jpeg will look like. I also like the comments and thoughts.

The shot was supposed to look a little spooky.
:-D

One other note. This shot was taken with a canon 5dmkii with the kit lens 24-105-L. Photo was taken at f13 at 50mm.
I thought I would post the info in case anyone thinks "it's the lens".
4 Einstein lights were used 1 on each side for the hair(gridded softbox) 1 out front overhead(giant softbox) 1 on the black background to form a gradient.

Russ, great photo. Capture of her eyes is fantastic. As someone else stated "boring down into the lens" - such an expression is difficult to achieve. Comes through on my screen well.

Fab picture, I'm really envious. Lovely model too, you must be very proud - just curious, does she have her mother's looks?

LOL
If you ask her Mothers friends they would say she looks like her.
If you ask my friends they would say she looks like me.

My opinion is she get the insanity look from her mother. That's another long story. (Her mother would say the same about me)

Finally got my daughter back in the studio. This was a new 4 light setup I was working on. We adjusted the lights quite a bit to get the feeling right. The goal was to give the photo an old Estate(above the fireplace) look. It ended up having a slight touch of the Adams Family look as well.

It's probably going to get downsized. I just liked this crop.

Comments welcome.

Very good, love the way the hair flies out.

Great picture. I got the same effect with my hair once when the toast got stuck in the toaster and I tried to get it out with a knife.

Great Avatar. From the looks of it..the toaster damage looks permanent.

Evgeny Sharkov does wind swept hair much better.

Thanks for posting Russ. Glad to see you working with you daughter and I am sure you already know she is a lovely looking girl and great model. I would prefer hair blowing back or to the side rather then up, (just my preference as I am not qualified to judge. Same as I like sharp and contrast even in a portrait. Eyes pop in focus.) Thanks again for sharing, I have been waiting to see you work with her again and I do like the photo. Please post any others you do. I always enjoy and look forward to your post.

Thanks Duane your always a great support.
Normally I try and remove stray hairs. LOL
My shots are all about mood and feeling. Unfortunately it ain't easy to get the mood and the hair right in the same shot. I need to go completely through the shots of this session. I ran into this shot about 20 picks in and thought I could work with it.
Thanks again for your comments.

I have to agree with what everyone has said. This one's a winner.

Besides agreeing with all that the others have said, what I also love is all the different shades and colors in her hair. Lots of high lights in there, not just flat brunette brown.
