Film and digital both have their place and many of us do both. Neither is "better", despite the strident arguments of some zealous fanatics.

For most of us, photography is a hobby and it should be fun. It's not about the cost or the resolution or the "accuracy" of the medium. If you get more pleasure from shooting film, don't be dissuaded.

What you talking about ! , its all about the cost . If it was not i would be shooting film in a hassablad , and may be a couple f5 , and having them processed in a lab . Because i would be to busy snapping my way around the
World . Cost is the only thing that keeps me in digital . Or it would be film cameras all the way.i was at a car show one day last summer . I took over 600 shots . Cost nothing just my time . Now if i was using film i might have taken five rolls of film . It was a fun day to do that many for shots for zip. Kids with cotton candy all over there face. Girls mud werestling. Mr lifto.

Your priorities are different from mine. I do my own B&W processing for 35mm, 120 and 4x5 and then scan it myself. I can afford to have my color developed in a lab because I don't need to update my digital equiment very often.

When I need to take hundreds of snapshots I used my D70 or a D7000 and for convenience I can use my smart phone or Coolpix.

It's good to have a choice.

I know where you're coming from. I was a photojournalist for two decades, using film. When you're covering fast-breaking events you don't have time to change WB, EV, shooting modes, AE modes, AF modes, etc. Good thing about digital, anyone can make a picture that is technically good; bad thing is everyone now thinks he/she is a photographer.

You're right. It's easy to call yourself a rose, but if you're a weed, you will be recognized as a weed. Why don't we just have fun, enjoy the hobby and go from there?

I know that some of you may not like some of Ken Rockwell's views on equipment, but he makes many valid points in his November 2012 article: http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/why-we-love-film.htm

It's a long article worth reading - he seems to have checked all of the boxes.

Yeah, I liked DOS and hated the lack of freedom in Windows because I could never find the right place to click.

PJ,
When I switched to digital after 40 years with film I was also sure that I was not going to ever be comfortable with a DSLR. I am 70 years old and learn slower than I did in younger years but beleive me the things you can do with a digital camera are well worth the struggle of the learning curve...
Stick it out...

I will second that , and as far as rockwell is concerned , he is so far off base its not even funny . I have been keeping tabs on him for five years now , and
He will say what ever is the flavor of the day . Next month he will say the compleat reverse of what he said the following month . No mater what camera
Or len's he talks about its all he ever uses'es. He has the gift of gab , and he sucks a lot of people in. And laughing all the way to the bank . He is one of the biggest con artists on the net . You want to read some one who knows more than rockwell will ever hope to . Log on to By Thom. Com
