I have the Canon 8-15MM and do not use it not very often. It's definitely a situational lens but produces very cool reesults when you do shoot somethging with it.

I use mine often. It can be used as a novelty but is good for scenics as well as demonstrated above. Line through the center remain straight which is useful to know (great shot, BTW, Opus)

I use my fisheye all the time. It adds a lot of fun to shooting.

Sit in a cold bath until the urge goes away.. You'll use it a few times and it'll then rot in your camera bag until you try to sell it on EBay for a few pathetic dollars to some other hapless soul. There are much more sensible extreme and useful wide angle lenses to choose from and of course there's always stitching..
That is what I tried to say above, but you said it so much better!

I do use my much pricier 14mm f/2.8 Canon L lens ultra wide a lot, but my 8mm fisheye still looks unused and lonely on the closet shelf....

Back in the film days, I had a fisheye for my old Pentax. I think I used it three times in ten years.
Now with software that creates panoramas, there is even less call for it. Also I never liked the inherent distortion. The world just doesn't look like that.

Sounds like a good lens to own Jerry. And at half the price of my Canon 14mm f/2.8 a better deal.

I also have the 8-15mm ultrawide to fisheye zoom which is the one I rarely use, but when I do, it works wonders.
It is also one of those lenses that is much too easy to over use (like fancy fonts in desktop publishing) -- less is decidedly more!

I use my Nikkor fisheye in spurts. Great for novelty shots. Also handy for 360 degree panorama pictures. Like any photography, it's hard to get "wow!" shots.

I have an urge to purchase a Sigma 8mm 2.8 fisheye lens for my Canon 7d....question is anyone with a fisheye lens any make any camera how often do you use it.......I have a Sigma 10/20 WA a couple of times I could have used the FE.....in the woods or under a bridge no time to rent one ..........looking forward to all replays.....Thank you...Bil

Bill-

I have a fisheye "filter"- I'm only just checking the effect out to see if I like it. There was a time when fisheye lenses were IMHO overused. I actually like some of the shots I took (narrow city street scenes, photos of other convex reflective surfaces and so on)- but by no means all shots.

Having said that, I'm glad I got it as a lens attachment, would not splash for a prime lens.

Just my feelings on the subject...

I recently bought the Sigma 8mm as I want to be able to make 360/180 panoramas with 3 shots around rather than the 6 my Nikon 16mm requires. It does a good job. The Sigma gives a circular image; the 16mm gives a rectangular image, albeit with the fisheye distortions

Beautiful shots. They say you should photograph your valuables in case they get stolen. A fisheye would probably not be the best choice for that.
