I need some advice. My fuji s5000 quit on me and I am looking for a new camera for vacation. Have been considering the Nikon s9100. Please advise. Thank you.

I do not know those, or most cameras. My general advice would be to go with name brands - find one with the options you like or feel sure you would like to grow into, and to not over buy as to features that will never be used and or you will feel intimidated by. I use a Canon T2I, and even though I like it - I can't say I have any great loyalty to it. Myself, I would not ever buy the latest model of any camera on the market as you will be paying a premium price for something that is new 'til the next one comes out. I would narrow it down to about 4 cameras > go into a store that carried it > pick it up. How does it fit your hand? Easy to reach and understand controls? Pay little attention to the person behind the counter {okay, they MAY have some good advice} they will not be using it. Ask about their return policy - take home, snap a bunch & be happy.

I use a Nikon coolpix l22 and love it. Rember Nikon was first an optics company and the quality of their lenses cAANT BE BEAT.tHEY ARE SO GOOD THAT IN THE EARLY DAYS OF CANNON(yuck) THEY manufactured lenses for cannon. sorry about the caps I need a lock for my caps lock button :) Go to popphoto.com they have a buyers guide you can check out the reviews for any camera you are interested in. Go to a real camera store (not wally world, target or kmart) where they have real photographers behind the counter and try out the different models. Then when you picked one out buy it from that store. Yes you will probable find it cheaper at best buy or the internet, but by suppporting your camera store you insure there will always be a place you can go to for info and support. And remeber as a Nikonian there are only 2 types of photographers in this world Nikon owners and those who wish they were Nikon owners.

Thank you for the compliment I truly apreciate it. His music is so timeless and inspiring. His music will still be listened too when most of todays artists aren't even in the bargin bins anymore. The thing I respected about Frank more than anything was his absolute loyalty to his friends. The only other entertainer that comes close is my second favorite Elvis. One more thing I thought about even if you dont buy a nikon buy from a company that is only a camera company not just a small piece of a giant electronics conglomerete(Sony,Panasonic,Samsung) At least cannon, pentax nikon and olympus have been making cameras and lenses for at least half a century.

My friend is an optics physicist, graduated from RIT and stated that Nikon lenses were used exclusively at that institution when he attended. I was told that most of the lenses used by Raytheon are Nikon except for a Leica which is better. The classic artists like Michelangelo, Shakespeare,Woody Guthrie,(This Land is Your Land) Dali and People like Ansel Adams will live on after the pop artists like Andy Warhol Madonna and Less Brown and his band of renown have faded away. Go Duke!

Actually not a nickel's difference in Canon and Nikon except for the fact that Canon is, without doubt, 4 cents better.

as you can see there is a bit of a rivalry, albeit friendly in most cases ..between Canon and Nikon users, but both make excellent cameras..remember though that the lenses and the eye/brain behind the camera are what really make the photo ..good luck

Actually since Cannon is the offical camers brand of Satan   all kidding aside I always admired the AE-1 and I use a cannon scanner and have a cannon P+S course the cannon p+s has been replaced with a Nikon. If I was just starting out I would consider Pentax. They have been produccing some mighty fine and interesting cameras lately.

Without getting involved in the actual debate itself I would not give any weight to the fact that anyone or place uses a certian camera or lens. Doctors and hospitals are given drugs by the truck load with the idea that they can then advertise that so and so uses their brand - veterinarians and thier schools are given both food and their books on pet nutration by Science Diet with the idea they will promote that brand - check their offices. The same thing is done in various areas - Fisher brand sunflower seeds are the offiicial brand of the MLB, big deal - just mean they paid for the right. Nope; the use of something by anybody says nothing about the quality - only their advertising budget. Guess who pays for that?
