I have been looking at a superzoom/bridge camera like the Canon sx50, till someone on this site suggested the Sony rx100 with its large sensor. All the reviews suggest that this camera, although expensive ($650.) is worth the money. I do not use the far-end of a long zoom and figure that I could crop down the 20 mp image and still have high quality images. Am I nuts for going in this direction?

Hey Doc ..... it's all subjective because you're comparing apples to oranges .....

And even if you are nuts, is that a reason not to do it??? [Its called a non-sequitur....look it up]

If you don't use the far-end of a long zoom, then why in blue blazes were you looking at the SX50 in the first place? Just how long a lens do you need? The RX100 is a great camera, but if you routinely need a 200mm telephoto, then the Sony is not the way to go. I use mine for scenics and family photos and it is great, no doubt about it. Think about what you really want the camera to do, before trying to select the camera. Just my 2cents.

Snapsort compares one camera against another. Here;s their take on a compassion of the two. But like umclebe11 said it depends on what you are looking for, make a list of what you want it to do. Then go back over it and prioritize it. Scroll down and the site will give you the reasons for its decision. Good luck kin your search.
