Concerned with heat and other concerns we decided to have new windows put in.
So the 1973 windows now are 2013 and very nice. This is the front window just about done.

Cool! Really gives it a modern look! (Note: Photos taken through them will also make for a National Geographic cover shot, don't ya know (lol)!) We did that several years ago; sure makes a difference.

Also, isn't it nice to have palm trees in your yard instead of the big old Maples that would drop a quad-zillion big flat leaves every fall.
When I lived in Iowa we used to have people from Florida who would drive all the way up just to sit and watch me rake the leaves ... then they'd drive back to Florida. (It seemed to make them happy.)

Louvered or Jalousie Windows have always amazed me being from the West, but while living in the Philippines I was told they helped in a Typhoon as they allowed the wind to pass through rather than create a vacuum like solid pane windows do. I am unsure of the second point, but know you will enjoy the new ones you have installed. My friend did that and was amazed at the sound dampening aspects more than anything until he received his first heating and cooling bill. Now he wouldn't live without them.
And in respect to your Avatar - The Air Force doesn't march, they Fly!!! Go Air Force!

We did the same thing starting about a year and a half ago, having one room done at a time as we could afford it, the last room was finished in October, sure makes a huge difference, both for appearance and comfort. We now have an 80 year old house with double pane windows.
Now my only problem is getting the palm trees to grow. . . . . Not quite sure what keeps going wrong.

Put some sand and a few beach chairs around them... I'm sure the neighbors in St. Louis will understand.

Maybe the same problem I have in TN...too cold in the winter. I had to settle for a ponytail palm that I can bring inside when it gets 50 degrees and below.

We did replacement windows about 5 years ago and have loved them ever since. Tilt in for easy cleaning, less drafty. We don't have huricanes to worry about, just tornadows and I don't worry much anyway.

Re your avatar: Are you saying that Army vets are a bunch of apes? Just asking. And yes I spent five years in the Air Force.
