HELP!
I shoot in raw only. But when I tried to upload them to my laptop via the SD card slot...my computer "stated" that it did not support that type of file." I've done it many times before with my D3000. On the SD card menu it says they are NEF files, does that make a difference? I've used 2 SD cards, both different, and my computer says the same thing. It will upload them in JPEG, but that's not what I want or need. And when I choose both JPEG and RAW on the camera menu, it will show me the JPEG, but not the RAW. I'M GOING CRAZY!!!!!

To obtain the codecs rquired to view NEF files in WIN 7 follow the link provided:

Thank you Perry...I'm trying. :P
Also, remember that Win7 or others can't view Raw format files. You would need to use a photo editing s/w to view them. Also, there are settings say in ViewNX at the top that will let you view only Raw, or only Jpg, or both.
Well, you see I didn't know that. Not that computer literate...Anyway, after wresting with this problem all week, my son came home from college and within 2 minutes fixed everything. He changed something on my camera (this is where my ignorance shines) so that when I insert my SD card, it is read differently. "No big deal" he tells me! I thought, (to myself), oh to have a brain that's not weakened by age...being a little over dramatic, but I hope you get my drift! And...I am known to be a tad over dramatic...must be the Irish/Viking ancestory in me! No offense to those of the same heritage. : :P

Your son might have changed the setting in your camera from RAW to TIFF or JPEG (or RAW AND JPEG). If you want to work with RAW images, he might have done something a little different from what you really wanted. You should find out what he did. And then thank him, of course!
I know...I did thank him! No..it wasn't that. It had something to do with the card reader, and changing how the file system read the card. He goes so fast when he does stuff like that...I can't keep up! :-D

He's just giving even for all those years you said, "Just because I told you to!"
I think you hit the nail on the head!!!!

That is absolutely not true. I view thumbnails and previews of .dgn, .cr2 and .arw files (all RAW formats) in Win 7 64 Explorer (otherwise known as My Computer). You just need the codecs and can easily find and download them from the web by searching "view <file type> in Win 7 Explorer" if you are missing them.
I also view the same RAW format files in Windows Photo Viewer which is part of Win 7.
Thank you for your advice! I really appreciate it! :-D

Wow! thanks robert, I didn't know that was available. I apologize to anyone for the misinformation. I will also get the codecs. Thanks
