Thanks everyone for your thoughtful suggestions. Given me some great options and will now go about trying them to see what works best for me.
charles,
I wish you luck in finding a solution.
In the event you do decide to get rid of your Nikon equipment I might be interested in buying it.
What exactly do you have?
Kit Kit,
Do you see an opportunity to take advantage of an elderly
person? Maryland, a once proud state, has some shady
characters living in it. If I were younger I would move.

100% YES to the Canon SX50 IS. I've previewed the SX50 up close and personal, and like all the newer features, including...the more powerful image stabilization.... A new SX50 IS is on my Christmas list to myself. Gizzy
I'd give one a try before selling all the old stuff. IMHO, anything that would stabilize images out to 50x would do a darn good job.
BTW, does the IS hold up all the way out to the far end of digital zoom? That's one test I always make, and I do it handheld in the freezing cold while having bad hypoglycemia.

Is it possible that the sugar alcohol in 3 fingers of Scotch or Cognac would help settle some of the hypoglycemic tremors?

Have you tried a remote shutter release and a tripod? I have an SX40hs and I have trouble holding it because it is too light in weight! I'm used to my 7D and all its lenses, which are 'weighty.' I never buy lenses that don't have IS because I, too, am getting older. I also use a tripod and remote shutter release most of the time. And,as my eyesight is degrading, I find the SX40 viewfinder not so 'view finding!'
It's hell to get old, but adjustments can be made to get what you want. Good luck.

Maybe not possible, but delightful for sure.
BTW, "Getting old - what to do?"
My sugestion - Let's get older! Elderness is not bad, taking the alternative in consideration.
Happy New Years!

I think 3 fingers of scotch works pretty well in settling the tremors, another 3 fingers makes it so you don't really care if you are shaking or not.
