This Is the Freedom Arms Model 83 revolver chambered in 454 Casull caliber. You may remember Clint Eastwood in the movie, Dirty Harry, commenting on the .44 Magnum being the most powerful handgun. He may have been right at that time but since then this caliber, 454 Casull, and then a number of other calibers made the 44 Magnum, still a powerful revolver cartridge for most people, look a bit smaller in stature.

I had this revolver made specially for me by the Freedom Arms Company in Freedom, WY. It has custom grips and a custom octagon barrel. It is very powerful and is a handful to hang on to when in recoil from full power loads but is also very accurate when I do my part. The caliber in different hands than mine has been used to kill all of the African Big 5 with appropriate bullets such as full solids.

A very nice aspect of this revolver is the cartridge is simply an elongated .45 Colt cartridge. This revolver will easily fire .45 Colt cartridges with a lot less fuss and recoil making it enjoyable to shoot for most.

Nice work, Dennis. You have to read the C.J. Box series on Joe Pickett, a fictional game warden in Wyoming, and his friend, Nate Romanoski, who totes one of these.

I don't think so depending on your experience with shooting handguns. You are more than welcome to come shoot it whenever you are in the area. I would first start you off with some factory normal .45 Colt loads that would be like shooting a 38 special. It just takes some practice and you would be shooting it well in a couple of hours. Please let me know if you are ever in the area.

I dislike men who hand their wife or girlfriend a heavy recoiling firearm and then take great delight laughing when the gun knocks them on their butt or hurts them. That isn't fun and it also takes a woman who wants to learn to shoot learn to HATE shooting after one shot. I believe in starting easy and working up to the gun you want to fire.

Thank you very much nervous2.

Freedom Arms does make some fine handguns, not only strong but built like a watch.

On one of my hunting trips to Alaska, a young man from Maine was flown into camp for a moose hunt coming up. His only gun was a Freedon Arms .454 Casull. He let me shoot it at a 9" dinner plate at 25 yards and I hit it with all five shots and was impressed with its accuracy...and recoil!!

I tried to help my wife adjust to shooting heavier recoiling handguns, but without much success. She's very happy shooting a .22 or a .38 Special. I'm good with that. I gave her a lot of credit for her efforts.

This was the one I wanted, but couldn't afford at the time. I settled for a used field grade at about a 1/3rd the cost.
