This is my attempt at digitally painting a Koi using the Clip Paint graphic painting program and a graphic display tablet and stylus.
Love it! The blues and greens of the water look so realistic and 3D, with the glimpse of rocks on bottom. Great choice of koi colors too.

Thanks, Linda. A Koi is a simple shape to draw and paint. It was created with soft base colors and blended with a "watery blending brush". The final shape of the Koi was formed with a soft eraser and a fine edge applied in places. The blues and greens of the water were painted using watercolor glazing brushes and the layer transparency was set low.
I attempted to paint the gravel background layer; however, it was frustrating to paint it the way I wanted so I used a gravel texture for the base background which I desaturated and lowered the opacity.
Placing the transparent blues and greens over it as an overlay worked for me. The Koi I painted sits on top of it all.

Love the colors and I really think you handled the tail well with the colors merging with the colors of the water. Nice.

Thanks, Erich. I attempted to create a watery effect where a subtle, more translucent color would work best for me.
Outstanding work, Gary. The Koi really blends well with the background which is so realistic.
