Thats because we all have lots of old chargers. New stuff tends to come with USB-C on both ends.

The iPhones used the lightning connector. Which was really cheap, they switched to the USB-C. Much better.

You already know who is going to win.

Volkswagen won. They own Porsche.

Even Apple has gone to USB-C cables on the iPhone 15.[/quote]

Apple was forced to do this because the EU insisted upon it. This was not an Apple choice.

When I got this Galaxy Fit 3 watch, I mentioned that the magnetic charging cable has a USB-C fitting on the end. I ordered a pair of USB-C chargers for it. Today, I saw that I could have ordered a pair of USB-Type A charging cables for less money. I didn't like the idea of having just one cable to charge the phone, so now I have three. Where is standardization when you need it?

I hope this doesn't become a new trend - USB-C charging cables.

Unfortunately USB-C is the fiuture. My Apple M2 laptop does not even have an A type connector nor ethernet. Just 3 USB-C sockets

Yup the ethernet port is going. First it's the serial port and then the ethernet port which I still use both often enough.

I think it’s going to be a long time before Ethernet goes away. Of course on portable tablets and phones but not on desktops or servers or most laptops in a corporate environment - wifi doesn’t provide the security or max performance of ethernet.

The laptops used in the company I worked for have no ethernet port. They do give people the USB to ethernet dongle. Most laptops sold today have no ethernet port. Yes I connect to the company network via wifi.

Jerry, pay close attention to the cable descriptions.
A 'Charging' cable may be just that. Those cannot pass data.
Make sure you get one that is capable of data transfer as well.

True enough, but using a dongle is always an option. Not only is wifi performance an issue with dozens or hundreds of clients on a subnet, especially with more and more users accessing the cloud for data, but other than poor computing practice, WiFi is near the top for vulnerabilities. Too easy to park outside a building and intercept the traffic, and security protocols such as WPA are just not that hard to hack. At the aerospace company I consult for, wifi is a no no.

Isn’t that the same company running DOS on some machines?

This company doesn't have DOS machine but all their computers are on Wifi. The other company that uses DOS machines has Wifi but it's so lame that most people use the dongle to connect to ethernet.

My desktop computers have firewire. Newer computers don't have them any more.
