I'd like to get a better background, but don't have a clue. What buttons do I push, and oh no, you're going to say Layers! I have PS 8

I know what you are saying about the background! I wish we lived close enough to visit, I would love to help you get started on changing backgrounds. I've been teaching myself image editing, with the help of online tutorials and tips, for about 15 years. I'm not a formally educated expert, but it's something I love to do. It's not as difficult as it seems. More time consuming and tedious. Great photo of the kids!!
Ignoring the fact that the shot is blurry/out of focus... the people & expressions are great. I like the brick column, but don't like the by-standers in the background. Maybe use a smudge tool to make them less obvious? Or darken that part in?
Thanks for the tips. I'll give it a try today. And I'll make sure I make a copy first.. Blury because of hand shake. I am getting something that releases the shutter free of me.
You have the tools, all you have to do is learn to use them. youtube.com will show you how.
I 71 and have that camera shake. Adobe is coming out with something for hand shake maybe PSE 11 or PS 6.

Hi... The column is leaning a slight bit to the left too, so that would be the first thing I'd fix. Then try what ever else you wany to do.

Those "people" in the back, they look like me they are painted on the wall, or am I really going blind?

Nope, not painted. Don't know what'smaking them look like that. I'm off to do everything that's been suggested. I'll probably be hours at it, but I enjoy every minute of it.
Thanks to all....You are such a great group of people!
Order you The Photoshop Elements 8 Book for Digital Photographers by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski, it will help you with Elements 8. Just finished a class on it at and that is the book the College used. You can download the same pictures as in the book and practice right along with the book
Well(blush) I DO have the book. I think it's latin with greek paragraphs and Swedish subtitles.
With impressionistic graphics? Just a question the background people as painting is that a DOF issue?

This was a quick edit on a very low res image from the site. Using magic brush select the subjects then select inverse. Use Gaussian blur but not too much. Then burn in at 20%. I also used Nik Color efex pro 4 to increase the detail. Hope this helps. If you decide you want Nik Softwar you can use my discount code rwicker
