Encouraged by Consumer Reports, I ordered dental floss that does not contain PFAS - whatever that is. I see the stuff I bought is described as "biodegradable." If I don't work fast enough, it will probably dissolve in my mouth before I finish. They should make edible floss. Use it and then eat it.

PFAS is in everything it seems. I suspect that your floss probably has PFAS. People complain about parts per TRILLION, which is probably the limit of detection.
If your floss doesn’t contain PFAS, it probably will pick some up from your teeth.

I'm sure that before commercial floss was invented, all there was was bio-degradable floss, i.e., strips of various types of naturally grown fibers from trees, grasses, etc.

Reaching back in my dim memory I recall a scoutmaster telling us that you could chew a maple twig and it would shred the end to form a brush.
I also believe I heard that toothpicks are made from birch wood because it doesn’t splinter.
