Who remembers BURMA SHAVE (GREAT reminder of the past)?
I'm sure that Burma Shave actually saved some lives. People laughed and then were more careful! It was a REAL "service" to America, even though it was an advertisement and it was one of the RARE "really useful" ones!
A man, a miss,
A car a curve.
He kissed the miss,
And missed the curve. Burma Shave
DON'T STICK YOUR ELBOW
OUT SO FAR
IT MAY GO HOME
IN ANOTHER CAR. Burma Shave
Early 60’s on Rt. 66 in Nevada driving cross country as a teen.
Pretty neat as a kid from the east.
The worst thing about Lady Bird's law that went into effect against roadside signage was the disappearance of the Burma Shave signs. Before the days of the interstates, our family would drive from Michigan to Kansas on the old highways to visit my Mom's parents. Along the way we were entertained by the Burma Shave signs. Even as a third grader I could appreciate their humor. Right up there with Ogden Nash!!
Great memories!

Burma Shave ads were iconic bits of Americana.
Traveling in the '60s was always an adventure. If the cheesy Valiant didn't break down at least once, Dad would take a wrong turn when Mom was asleep, and we would go 90 miles in the wrong direction before he noticed. She was the navigator, with the map in her lap.
My favorite was:
Don't lose your head
To save a minute
You need your head
Your brain is in it
I remember when I was a kid back in the 6o's my dad would play this alphabet game with us were we would spot letters on billboards license plates.
I still use BURMA SHAVE and it's still great.
Wet road
Curve ahead
Went too fast
Now he’s dead
