I've been using PSE 2018 since it came out and it's served me well. Still works as good as new but is getting to be a bit long of tooth and I'm guessing there've been some improvements. Adobe is offering me a 30% discount on the 2034 version so I'd like hear what others think of the edition.

PhotoShop and PhotoShopElements are rather mature software products. I continue to use PSE10, circa 2011, almost daily. For working with JPEGs, mostly for merging text and image shapes onto JPEGs, it does everything I need it to do. None of the added features of newer releases are relevant to my needs. If you don't need / use a feature today, why pay even 1 cent more for features you don't need / won't use tomorrow?

Adobe does a good job of encouraging people to spend more money on PSE. Just add your old PSE version into this listing at Adobe.com and get a sense of what that money could buy:

(OOPS, seems you'll have to extrapolate from just 2021 as the dropdown doesn't go back to 2018.)

One final observation for all RAW shooters: PSE2024 -- just like all PSE versions -- is an 8-bit editor once you invoke any of the layer-based tools. A RAW shooting should be using a dedicated RAW digital editor to main the higher bit-depth of their original files through their entire workflow. Or, just shot in JPEG and maintain 8-bit through your entire PSE workflow.

Same here, for the most part, PSE and PSPro are the base to hang our plugin on, and to do basic tool modifications, ie. Crop, Straighten, etc. Topaz is the chrome do-dads that make my edit programs function.

Does your camera manufacturer provide a free editor. Canon provides DPP which is a RAW and JPEG editor.

Elements+ for $12 or so can unlock many features of PSE 18.

It all depends on what you need/want. If the feature adds from 2021 to 2024 seem valuable to you you can be sure the 2018 to 2024 changes will be even more strong.

I use PSE 2014. Does all I want it to do. I can drive a stick shift. Newer versions are like driving one of the new 9 speed automatics. Don’t need that for the small amount of editing I do.

I have had 2014 and 2021. I bought 2024 when I got a Z8. I thought the 2021 was a worthwhile improvement over 2014. The 2024 over the 2021 not so much. When I consider the $ lenses and bodies cost, $69 for a newer version of Elements doesn't hold me back much.

I used the comparison chart offered by Adobe and decided the 2024 upgrade wasn't going to improve my processing. I do have the 2023 version, (I downloaded it when I bought a new computer), and I use that if I need to make adjustments. But, I now use Luminar Neo more than PSE or Lightroom.

I haven't used Nik in a long time. I used to play with it on my desktop when it was free. I looked today and couldn't find it. Then I remembered it was free from Google. The free "Google NIK" is still on my computer, and still works.

I have PSE 2022 and still like it. Last year I bought a Canon R7 and couldn't get the software to 'see' the R7's images. I called Adobe and the tech downloaded a plug in and I've had no problems since. Adobe was helpful and took 5 minutes to get me going....
