Do we really have to told that a download does not cost money? "Free Download" is all over the Internet, but it's meaningless. It's often difficult to see what the actual price is - until you download it.

Agreed.
"Download" is free, using it is another story.

But people like "free"........

If I understand your post, the download "process" is what is free but the cost of the app or item is what needs to be provided in the advertisement. If that is your point, I agree. So often one must scroll through pages of redundant information to find the cost of something, but the download is free.

It’s not meaningless. The meaning is fairly clear. What it is is misleading. Typical marketspeak. It makes you THINK the product is free. It’s probably not.

Those ads that say the download is free doesn't tell you that after the trial you will then be charged each month.

Only free as long as the trial period isn't up yet.

Only free as one doesn't have to pay for the "download".
If you want to use it, well, that's another story......

Right! That big Download box will probably give you something you don't want.

Based upon your Chinese restaurant menu experience, i.e. menu download for $24, maybe free download is welcome in some instances. 😊
