Once Upon a time, Wheels were curly utilitarian, and mostly the same size. So they were largely interchangeable, at least Within the same brand names. All Mopars, for example, had identical wheels. So a junkyard was a good option if you needed to replace one. When I've been the wheel on my 1998 BMW z3, I could not find one in any junkyard in the Philadelphia area, and had to pay a fortune to get it straightened.
