We had a crabapple tree next to our house. Every spring it looked beautiful.

Every fall it was an invasive devil of a tree. The crabapples fall to the ground (and are not something that wildlife of any kind want). They then become mushy and disgusting. I finally had little kids picking them up for an afternoon. It would cost me about $25 to get most of them. The kids had fun and I was grateful I didn't need to be bending over all afternoon. But the nasty part was, the limbs are attracted to the roofing materials. They grew up and under the roof, causing all kinds of problems. I trimmed the tree WAY BACK, and the next fall, it was already up onto the roof trying to get in. Finally, I had a tree service cut it down and a stump grinder make it all go away.

I miss the pretty flowers, but will enjoy looking at yours.

Thanks. This one is a flowering crabapple; it doesn't grow large, and the fruit are small, berrylike. I do understand about the big green crabapples.
