When I had a D7200 I had used that lens most of the time. A very versatile and sharp lens.
I paired this lens with my D-500 for a while, & continued to research other DX lenses. Nikon makes a much better lens, the 18-300 (see a report from Ken Rockwell)
https://kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-300mm-vr.htm he is a totally independent reviewer, tester. I still have this lens (18-300) and use it for a lot of my remote shoots (Kennedy Space Center launch pad) & have been very pleased with results I have gotten over the past 4 1/2 years. I dug up an old image taken with the 18-300...largely untouched N-500, 18-300 1/8000 F/10 ISO 100 shot at 106mm

I have this lens coupled to my D7200. It stays on that camera 90% of the time. The lens I am speaking about is the 18-200mm 3.5-5.6 GII ED. I find this lens to be very versatile and fairly sharp. Probably 90% of my posts on UHH come from this lens.

Me too. It’s my walk around lens. Very versatile and sharp enough for me.
I own the first version of the lens. In my humble opinion the lens is sharp and very versatile. Because it is a variable aperture lens my recommendation is that you stay, except for the 18mm focal length, at around f8 and beyond 200mm stay at around f11 for its best optical qualities.
I do not mean you cannot use the lens at other apertures, but those apertures will give you the best results.
When fully extended to 200mm better use or a high ISO setting or a high shutter speed to minimize shake and make the images sharp. If I had to buy the lens again, I will not hesitate a second, that good it has been to my photography.

Great information. Thanks so much.
Good lens. I got my first one in a kit with the D7000. Kept it with the D7100. My current walk-around lens on my D7200 is the 16-85mm lens which covers most of my shots quite well, is quite a bit lighter and to my eye is sharper. But the 18-200 is a very good all around lens.

Thank you for your response.
I recall that Ken Rockwell’s comment on Nikon’s series of DX 18-XXX lenses is that one should to get the focal length you need. He liked the DX 18-300 because of its utility, but no complaints about the DX 18-200. My wife and I have used all of these and found them very satisfactory for general photography.
Thanks so much Clark..Much appreciated.
I had my copy on a D80 first, then D300, and finally on a pair of D7100s. It was my all around lens until I got my D850; I did do some sampling with it on the D850. I got some really nice keepers when I took it to AZ, OR and WA. Just sold it and my D7100. That lens was a better performer than the Tamron 18-270 I had purchased after. Although the creep was annoying especially when I was into flower pics, I learned to deal with that situation. I liked its range on any cropped sensor Nikon body...27-300.
Thanks so much for your response.

Since he has been a member for 8 years, I'll bet he already knows that. Sometimes in our haste to respond, we can forget.
