I like the second one best... But... shots from inside loft are missing?

I pick and choose which old barns like this I'm willing to risk going into. This one made my no-go list. This one also had all the signs that old " Jake No Shoulders " called it home. When I'm out in this environment, I'm wearing every piece of snake-proof gear known to man. A good friend I have up there, who would occasionally go out with me, got zapped by a Copperhead last year. Brother, I DO NOT want to experience that.

The question that comes to my mind is, "Why is it still standing?"

I could get a good look at the interior of the barn. The main weight-bearing structure didn't reflect the severity that the outside does. But looks can be deceiving. Roof damage like this one has is a signal that collapse should be considered to be immanent. A good, heavy snowfall is probably going to do this thing in.

Thanks, John.

As you and I have noted on occasion, bad roof leads to short life.

You're probably a lot more tuned into that situation than I am. I have one question, though. How do you take a log, warped board and plane it down? Don't you loose too much of the board trying to flatten it? I'm admitting to you, Tom, that I don't know much about of this stuff. In the case here, most of those side boards has a pretty pronounced warp to them.

Tom

Usually even with the warp you can plane down to usable wood. Some maybe shorter pieces but still usable. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Obviously, that building isn't in 'Tornado Alley'.

Great shots...poor old thing! I love the pretty Virginia Creeper vines when they turn such a beautiful red in the fall.

You're right, Peter. Rats and spiders for sure. When you have a heavy rat population, you have snakes. When you get careless, that's when bad things happen. My friend that the Copperhead got admitted he was careless, that it should never have happened. I stay on red alert when I'm in a snake environment.
