But does everyone have the latest phone? If cell phones cost $100, I'd buy a new one more often. The new Samsung starts at $800, same with the iPhone. That a major investment. My phones date from 2018 and 2021. If I spend $800 so I can use this $450 camera, will I have to buy another $800 phone next year to activate something else?

In my case, the phone is essential for simply getting the camera to work. I don't care about operating the camera with the phone. It's the same with my router and modem. The phone was necessary to set them up. Security cameras are the same - set up with a cell phone.

Yes and since they are only needed for setting up a PC app would be a much better way. Even if you have to use your big red it shouldn't matter if you only have to do it once.

I found what seems to be a way to activate my Insta360 using a computer, but I don't think it will work.

I have one scope that requires both the cell and WiFi at the same time for updates, as we have no cell service, I had to take to the doctors office on a visit for my wife. Library might be another choice, but still not convenient.

Apple I believe was talking about using the phone for their now dropped car. Imagine losing access to your car if an update needed a new phone. Most computers are sufficient for at least 10 yrs if purchased new and properly selected, but my experience with device apps is more like half that at best.

I have often wondered how many people who say they can't afford a house, or car, or ?? realize how much money they spend on electronic services and software that just wasn't so in the past.

Cell phone access should be available everywhere on earth. There are many thousands of satellites orbiting the earth. If they can justify the expense of those satellites, they can justify lifesaving cell phone satellites.

No, they'd have to do better.
