Liberals intentions are well meaning I believe, but the results are catastrophic for those in the poverty level and middle class. This is not yet happening here in the US but will soon happen as it is in Europe.

This is exactly what the left pushed for… Fast food chains were never meant to be a place for someone to raise a family of 6, they were to be part time positions with some full-time advancements. Mostly the fast food restaurants were for school aged kids to learn how to interact with people, with a job, to offer spending money, and to begin responsibility learning for their future.

The part time position was not intended to pay for a house, it is a stepping stone to move on.
$15.00/hr x 8 hrs= $120/day x 5 days= $600/week x 52 weeks = $31,200/year!!

Of course when this happens, like it did today in Los Angeles, the poor and unskilled workers will go on Welfare, and cost American workers more to support them.

McDonald’s recently came out with their answer to those that want $15/hr pay.
Robots.

This month in Europe McDonald’s hired 7,000 touch-screen cashiers.

If McDonald's ceased to exist the world would be better off.

I feel bad for you that you're envious of someone who makes $15 per hour.

Really, why would I be envious of you?

I retired at 45. All paid up no debt, own my home, my cars and money in the bank. I still consult from time to time when I like the project...my minimum is $7,500.

That's great! I applaud you for being financially successful, I still don't envy you nor anyone else. Money and wealth are not the measure of man, his character is and how he treats others.

Denying working people a living wage tells me a lot about you.

You sure make a lot of unfounded claims about me, tell me where I deny people a living wage? Here's what you said a few lines up and there's the true denial of what you claimed about me.

The "real" answer, now that touch screens are becoming more common, will be...... "Self Service".
We will be ordering our own food, paying by credit card (which many many already do) and there may be 1 or 2 people to bring your food to the counter.

Technology always reduces jobs.

This has NOTHING to do with $15/hour, but rather the constant search for limiting expenses.

Agree with that . We would have seen this trend regardless of what hourly wage is. Go to any store Walmart, Aldi , Lowe’s, all have auto cashiers

Ref mcD. If you notice the back workers ( non cashiers) probably out number cashiers at least 5 to 1.

Yes I agree that companies will integrate these new technologies to reduce cost whether it's a minimum wage at 7:25 or $15 an hour. The $15/hr will only Expedite the process if this technology can offset the cost of the $15 wage plus the insurance they must have for these employees. So the main reason they are installing these machines is to offset the cost of the employees.

Machines do not need all the extras, like insurance, wages, and the employers contribution to Social Security, and other tax requirements referred to as overhead, these add up to 15% or more of the employees hourly rate. Taking this into consideration we see that the cost to the employer is not $5.00 per hour but around $6.50 here in Ca where the minimum wage just hit $20 for fast food restaurants .

The reality for many Americans is that the VAST service economy is as far up the American Dream ladder they're going. We've had Macca's touch screens for years. Here everyone gets a *regular wage ... no one works for tips. That's a hangover from chattel slavery days. Be a proper Capitalists and make your businesses work properly. Walmart and Amazon's low wages are government subsidised with food stamps. Lucky donor class eh.

* This will tip the grievance Racs over the edge. Everyone with a full time job in Aussie gets 4 weeks paid annual leave AND "leave loading'', extra pay calculated at 17.5 per cent on top of an employee's normal wage. Those people are "permanent" staff, Maccaa's kids are "casual' staff (20-30 hrs?) BUT their hourly rate is much higher to compensate for no paid annual leave. Perfect job for a student or a surfer but you wouldn't want to be pregnant.

Minimum wages are involuntary tax impositions by the government (local, state, Federal) on businesses. The minimum wage rate has no relationship to the value of the labor. And it becomes a fixed cost which the business owner can't control by adjusting the wage rate.

The best people to determine the value of labor for their companies are the owners. Government hasn't a clue as to the value of labor. Government is in the business of buying votes, and maintaining power.

Agree completely. A wage/ salary is nothing but a contract ( or should be) between a willing seller ( the employee) and a willing buyer( employer) at a mutually agreed upon price . Minimum wage nothing more than a subsidy for business.
