Totality is when the moon blocks all the light from the sun, and even then the Path of totality is a stripe 50- 100 miles wide -- as you get further from the path of totality you then see a partial eclipse -meaning the sun is not totally blocked.
I am located roughly 200 miles from the path of totality, and even in that small distance I am only 91% Total

The easiest way to understand the big picture here is to remember that the earth's orbit around the sun is an ellipse (not a circle) and the Moon's orbit around the earth is also an ellipse.
So for a total eclipse to occur the moon has to be close enough to the earth to block the whole sun, but even then the darkest part of the moon's shadow (the Umbra) is only about 50- 100 miles wide (depending on how far the moon is from the earth at the time of the eclipse). If you move outside of that you start to see a bit of the sun thus for YOU the eclipse is partial. And a sliver of the sun can cause the same damage as the whole sun.
I hope this helps

Understood, but I was looking for your definition of 'true totality' versus perhaps 'false totality'...? Technically speaking, the eclipse is either total or partial.

Well normally when kidding you add an emoji like. ;). That way people know you are kidding.

If you had any class you would thank him for his kind reply.

But in fact I suspect you knew this and your omissions were deliberate. “If it talks like a Troll…”.
In case there is any doubt that statement is directed at you.

So it just dawned on me today ( the day before the eclipse) that I should try and get some shots of it. I am north of Philly in the 91% totality zone. I know you need filters for your cameras and phones ( which I don’t have). But I do have glasses. Is holding my glasses over the lens safe?
Also, an article I read said that for a few minutes during totality, it is safe to remove the filters. I wonder if that will be safe in my area (at 91%)?

Know this is "after the fact" but attached image , taken Z9, 50-250-junk lens. NO filter. Enjoy ( took pre-post pix, with iPhone XR, eclipse viewing approved glass, slid over lens.
