There is aa rumer on other forums.
Religious wckjobs are associating the Easter earthquake (4.8) with the eclipse (4.8)
AND they are hoping for the rapture.
A few other people are buying blowup sex dolls and will fill them with helium.
The consternation over only sluts going to heaven should be interesting!

I caught the one in 2017 in South Carolina. Clouds parted 10 minutes before the eclipse. Got so lucky.

So it just dawned on me today ( the day before the eclipse) that I should try and get some shots of it. I am north of Philly in the 91% totality zone. I know you need filters for your cameras and phones ( which I don’t have). But I do have glasses. Is holding my glasses over the lens safe?
Also, an article I read said that for a few minutes during totality, it is safe to remove the filters. I wonder if that will be safe in my area (at 91%)?

I used the mylar filter sheets from a cheap solar viewing paper glass from photo store. I remount the mylar sheet to a round cap and secured in front of my camera lens to take some images in 2017, it worked good. Here are some samples:

Hate to disagree.
I hope to see many more moon rises and sets but I will be dead for the next eclipse.

If you don't see totality, yes it's pretty boring, even 99.9% isn't good enough. You need 100% totality, then the behaviour of local wildlife etc changes...

I couldn't justify travelling to the USA for this but I may still head off for the one in Spain in August 2026. I'm sure I can build a holiday around it :)

We are in Cleveland. If clouds stay away, we are good for almost 4 minutes of totallity.

Totality is when the moon blocks all the light from the sun, and even then the Path of totality is a stripe 50- 100 miles wide -- as you get further from the path of totality you then see a partial eclipse -meaning the sun is not totally blocked.
I am located roughly 200 miles from the path of totality, and even in that small distance I am only 91% Total

The easiest way to understand the big picture here is to remember that the earth's orbit around the sun is an ellipse (not a circle) and the Moon's orbit around the earth is also an ellipse.
So for a total eclipse to occur the moon has to be close enough to the earth to block the whole sun, but even then the darkest part of the moon's shadow (the Umbra) is only about 50- 100 miles wide (depending on how far the moon is from the earth at the time of the eclipse). If you move outside of that you start to see a bit of the sun thus for YOU the eclipse is partial. And a sliver of the sun can cause the same damage as the whole sun.
I hope this helps

Yes, remove the filter during total eclipse. Protect camera sensor and Eyes all the rest of the time. Welding and cutting glasses will work.

I was in Nebraska a few years ago for a Total Eclipse (My 1st) I had ordered special solar eye glasses ( and will have them on today as well) I bought good glasses (about $40 each). They are not cheap plastic. They are sturdy and the lenses are coated glass and optically correct. The same with my camera filter. The solar filter was about $80 at the time, but performed correctly.

The next USA total eclipse is in 2045. But there will be other eclipses before that in other areas of the world. Enjoy this one with just your solar glasses and prep for the 2045 one or go to another one elsewhere in the world. They are always worth it if you can make it to one. Otherwise, you will have to make the trip to Ohio, the very corner of Pennsylvania, Canada, Vermont, or Maine. At least, these areas have the best chances of viewing with the least chances of clouds.

I will have to travel to other parts of the world as I will be long gone in 2045. My children and grandchildren will hopefully be here to see it in 2045. Let's just hope the world isn't blown to pieces in world war before then.

Couldn't agree more. Cheers to longevity and many more moon shots at the very least. Swiftly fly the years.

Apparently we all survived. The sex dolls may be a different story/ending. Maybe TMI too.
