I checked their current prices and compared to Bay Photo and Bay Photo is about 40% cheaper for most prints and about half price on some larger prints.

To which lab are you comparing Bay's pricing? Bay and their Black River Imaging division are typically a bit less expensive than Vivid, White House, and possibly others. But not by 40%. Bay is presently running a 20%-off sale. That likely distorts the comparison.

You pay for quality, unlike home printers that merely average, if not lower, when it comes to comparing with professional printing.

Very professional looking printing is easily achieved at home if you have true quality photo printer. With a regularly profiled system and proper soft proofing I have plenty of prints from my inexpensive Canon Pixma Pro 100. What he likes about those metal prints is that almost “glow” that a good metal print can get with the right photo.

Vivid Metal Prints in Salisbury, NC is local to me. They do beautiful work, using dye sublimation on aluminum.

The surface smoothness and high reflectivity are what make metal so good.

I almost went with them but didn’t like the hassle of having to get a quote for custom sizes. My work is usually cropped to the subject rather than a common aspect ratio. I went with Pictorem because they do gorgeous Chromaluxe HD sublimation prints and I was able to just order a 20x15 print with no hassle.

Yes, metal prints are on treated Aluminum and the process is spectacular besides being costly. In the process of developing a process to make "Lenticular" prints on Aluminum. Hope to make this available soon.

Photographs online use back light.

Prints use reflected light...the medium it is printed on will have a great affect.

Went to a shop on the Big Island full of metal prints showing typical large ocean and volcano scenes for sale. The gallery owner explained that the glow comes from how the metal reflects light differently than paper. He added that all his brilliant work was printed by Bay Photo and that I should use them too!

I'm a big Bay photo metal fan, excellent work!

Yes, looks great and at a price that won't break the bank or will it.
