My daughter lives at the center of yesterday’s quake. I live about 7-8 miles from her. She felt another aftershock this AM. I did not, but I may have been sleeping.

Here in Central Oklahoma we have a number of quakes in the last couple years all blamed on oil industry. Who knows. Most have been kinda together in the 3 to 4 range maybe a 5 rattler. On the metric system it was explained to me that the biggest obstacle was the land measurements all in inches, miles etc. To convert would be a nightmare. Just sayin

I taught 7th/8th grade mathematics during the 1960’s. All my students knew how to convert to and from non metric to metric. No calculators and they did it accurately. It was NOT a nightmare.

I can convert distance and speed close enough, but grams confuse me. A recipe with grams is useless to me. Kilograms are okay, though. Maybe I'll substitute kilos for grams in recipes. It will just make a larger batch.

"Now add three kilos of sugar." 😁

Don’t measure ingredients. Just pour and trust. 😀

No. I'm a stickler for following the recipe. I want to be able to eat what I cook. Tonight, I'm having a 4:33 Healthy Choice microwave dinner - some kind of chicken. At least they say it's chicken. 🙄

Sorry! Frozen dinners are never an option. I never measure ingredients. I doubt exact measurements alter the taste.

Yes, unlike Florida, which has never experienced unpleasant weather. Maybe I'll move there and enjoy all the state has to offer. 😁

We'd welcome you with open arms!

We do occasionally have these little storms that have some rain and wind though. At least it doesn't snow and we a whole different definition of what "cold" means. LOL

I agree that would work. However if you are a county clerk with maybe 100,000 pieces of property small staff. Switch over might mean bigger calcs

It took only minutes for the conspiracy nuts to get going about the NJ/NY earthquake yesterday. I'm glad I finally experienced an earthquake, though. Every time I was in CA, I hoped that I would feel at least a tremor.

If you have to wonder why the world is in such a mess, it simple. Human beings are in charge. People are idiots! Look at how worked up people got over a tremor.

What are the conspiracy nuts saying?

A quake in NY by itself doesn't mean much. It is a scientific fact though that the frequency of earthquakes has been increasing for a number of years now. That increase is expected to continue.

I have been in several earthquakes. None of them really big, at least not at my position, but some of those were quite serious for some people nearer the epicenter. I barely experienced an earthquake several years ago while living in Northern California that was stronger in the San Fran area, and happened sometime around the beginning of a world series game. I had a case many years ago, visiting a friend in Washington when the ground started jerking, and since my friend was a practical joker I thought he had something to do with it. Then I looked at him and he was innocently watching tv. Then I realized it was an earthquake in the Mt, Saint Helen's area. I have been through a few earthquakes in Boise, Idaho but the epicenter was around Yellowstone. Yellowstone is being closely watched for earthquake activity, and/or huge geysers going off. There are faults all over the world though the best know is the ring of fire which goes all around the Pacific; the west coast is totally at risk, as is Alaska, Japan, and much of the eastern pacific. It is easy to get carried away with the data. But it is a real threat. It really is.

As a California native for 75 years, I have been through a lot of Earthquakes and a 4.8 is very mild. A 7.2 will knock you off your feet. Welcome to my world! If you have Sirius/XM ask Shotgun Tom channel 73 60's host 4-7 pacific time Week days. Also CA Native.

I think you missed my inference. I was commenting on the complexity of conversion. It is only simple mathematics.

Hi Jerry, I'm glad you finally got to feel a shaker. It's not the best feeling or the worst, but I will say the '94 quake in Northridge, CA (my house was only 3 miles from the epicenter of that quake) was really bad...! How about waking up to find yourself 3 or 4 feet up in the air and then slammed down onto the bed. Believe me, THAT was no fun! LOL.
