When I am on the trail heading towards a goal (at the end of the trail such as a waterfall) I carry my camera with
2 lenses in a camera backpack thus having my hands free for using my hiking sticks (dont remember the formal
name of the hiking aids), purchased at Dicks Sporting goods. I dont mind stopping to unload my camera and lens
to take a shot along the way. This sometimes makes other hikers mad, but they are usually busy taking stupid
selfees with their cellphones, which is not the art of photography. That is why I usually go solo, take my damn time
and do it right. Thank You

I hold it as steady as I can! When not shooting it would be at my side with a crossbody strap (I prefer the Black Rapid Breathe Camera strap) I used to have a hand strap on my a7mk3 but removed it after thumb surgery because it was getting in the way, I might try it again and see if the healing time has worked.

When I learned to shoot a rifle the DI said, hod it like you would hold a woman and press the trigger like you would press he love button, the same hold true when shooting a camera.

Depends on the shoot. If I want to use two different lenses and be able to switch between those lenses quickly like for say...sports, events, etc. then I definitely have them strapped and switch between the two. One on one side and one on the other. But if I expect to just use one camera...no strap.

I always prefer a camera on a strap and on my shoulders. I feel it is safe and convenient too.
I have seen some carry the camera even DSLRs in their hand when on a shoot.
Which do you prefer?

It depends on what I'm shooting. I'm a dog sports photographer. For agility I'm generally seated in a chair and I use a monopod (necessary with my heavy 300mm f/2.8 lens).

For something called FastCAT (basically a dog chasing a lure on a low to the ground zip line), I'm laying prone on the ground and the camera lens (another big heavy lens -- either a rented 100-300mm f/2.8 or 400mm f/2.8) rests on my camera bag.

If I'm shooting dog portraits, it's handheld with a 70-200mm f/2.8 lens.

a 600mm lives on my z9 so I use a shoulder strap unless I use a tripod.

I usually carry my Nikons in my right hand with 3 fingers on the grip and thumb on the back. When walking with my hand at my side, it just stays there until ready to shoot. I've tried various straps and find they are a nuisance.

Longer lenses with body are mounted on a tripod and carried over my shoulder. I start spreading the legs as I swing the combo toward the ground, then verify everything is tight.

I have a case with strap on one camera, my Zfc because it looks cool. The neck strap can get in the way, but looks good. Some would say, just like a woman. I never said that!

Two inch wide cloth neck strap with the camera under my left arm to carry, switching to strap just around my neck when actually shooting usually holding camera in right hand hand with the strap still around my neck.

SAME! I paid too much to have to replace it!

My neck strap his detachable from the part attached to the lugs, and they can clip together, so for short bits, I can carry with a short finger wrap or wrist wrap.
I shoot my verticals elbows in tight, upside down actuating the shutter with my thumb. Reminiscent of TLR days.

All very old school. I'm learning to use my flippy screen to advantage.

When I'm out and about I use a "long" camera strap in a cross chest mode. I find that it keeps my camera from banging around when I move and it's easy to shoot either portrait or landscape mode.

My set-up. Cross-body strap attached to an M1 Carbine stock with a remote shutter release.
