I ignored a unknown caller from my cell phone last night. It turns out that it was the police calling to say that they found my wife's Drivers License on the sidewalk. So, we had to drive back into town to retrieve her DL.

I guess that I should have at least checked the voice mail that they left....

I think the cell phone is the reason nobody pays any attention to their jobs anymore. The last two times I had a dental appointment, they set up an appointment and then the day before, they messages reminding me of a DIFFERENT appointment. Same thing happened to my daughter-in-law and son with their appointments to see their doctors. When I go to the Dr or the dentist, the receptionist is always messaging on their phones.
Do they even know that that is not what they are hired to do????

I like cell phones and the internet but I could do without social media (which is the real problem).

Social Media is only a problem if you let be a problem. You don't have to sign up for any of them.
There're many reasons I like mine:
Reading the news,
Keeping track of appointments via my calendar,
GPS,
Taking pictures,
Looking up information,
Even making a phone call now & then,
I quickly put mine on silent if I'm in a meeting, restaurant etc,

I see no problem with the smart phone except that they make the pay phones go away. So if that affects you then OK otherwise you don't want it, ignore it.

I forgot to mention, I’m 75, and I have never had a cell phone. Have never seen the need. And I’m probably the last with a land line. My phone is to make and receive calls.

I'm with ya! There is no cell phone service where we live so we rely on the old-fashioned land line. We do have a track phone to use in the car but it is so very freeing not to be constantly looking at a cell phone. I took a picture back in 2010 showing people walking up Edinburgh's Royal Mile with not one cell phone in sight - they were actually smiling and talking to one-another!!

Hmm I'm 79 and have a cell phone and no land line. I keep my phone all the time and would not be without it. As far as I am concerned the cell phone is one of the most important inventions ever. It is basically a mini computer capable of doing many functions including taking decent photos. For people that disdain cell phones i guess to each his own.

After being plugged in for two years, the battery is probably shot.

It's not that I don't like my cell phone, but I don't stay glued to it. I often forget it and leave it at home. I often leave it in the other room. If I am busy, I ignore it. They can try again later. I use mine for phone calls and GPS. I hate doing internet on a phone. I hate taking pictures with my phone. I will if I just have to capture something and have no camera with me but I'd rather be without my phone than without my camera!

I bluetooth hearing aids that are paired to my phone. I have my phone a device on my dash as I use maps a lot. I can answer the phone by tapping the side of them.

A cell phone is great until the spammers get your number. I finally got the AT&T to stop them, but I still get several calls a day, not marked spam, with a number and just a location. I tried to get AT&T to send those to voice mail as well, but it hasn't worked so far.

You are right! It is all a matter of perspective. One person's curse is another person's blessing; and vice versa.

I wonder if the same would be true if you were to take a photo of Edinburgh's Royal Mile today? I would bet not but your point is taken. So much has changed since 2010. Some things have changed for the good, but some changes have not been so great. Just like any other period in Earth's history.
