The 5.56, aka .223 was designed for varmints (groundhogs, prairie dogs, coyotes, etc.) and in most places it is not legal to hunt deer with it, because it can't be counted on for a quick, clean kill. It often just wounds them and they suffer.

Why does it work in combat on humans? Because compared to the average wild animal humans are wimps and shut down when wounded. Also, the military rifles that fire it are either full auto (machine guns), or have a "burst" setting (usually 3 shots) that puts more than one bullet on target = more likely to kill. In combat a wounded enemy soldier is considered better than an dead one. It takes someone else out of combat to recover and care for a wounded soldier while a dead soldier, his buddies, just take his gear and ammo and keep going.

On the other hand, hunting rounds like the 30-30 (relatively weak), .308/30-06 class, and larger like .338, .458 (Kodiak bear up to elephant) are much more powerful and can really do some damage.

That said, in the hands of a good shot the .22LR can kill humans and large animals. A brain shot doesn't need a powerful round to kill. I read a story about a little old Grandma from one of the Alaskan tribal peoples who who while out gathering Berries? I think, was attacked by a large Kodiak Bear. One shot, through the eye and the thin bone of the eye socket into the brain, and that VW Bug sized bear dropped like it had been hit by lightening. The same bear could have absorbed multiple poorly placed hits by a heavy hunting rifle and kept coming.

I think you’re right Dave. Like most topics discussed on this forum, not one mind will be changed. Time to bury this horse as he is already maggot infested.

We’ll krackhead that is only because the Left Wing sickos like our Canadian sisters do not know what the hell they are talking about.

Add onto that FACT another FACT that you Left Wing sickos expect the rest of us to go along with the 3% in society and to bow to their criminal demands. Here in America the Right, the men of society have determined they won’t be pushed around by criminals OR pink panty wearing Left Wingers who haven’t the balls to stand up to criminals and put them in cages where they belong. Actually the Left stands up FOR criminals.

Sorry but the gun control debate was settled in 1789. Your country had a say in it right up until you were run out of America.

That was long before. Seems like we kicked your ass then too. But hey, you go ahead and claim one house as your victory. America has been protecting your ass as well as most of the rest of the world ever since. We used FIREARMS similar to the AR15 too. I think we will keep them.

Of course, you will keep them. You gun-crazed people would just

curl up in a corner and die if they took them away from you.

Whoa!! Your splainer has the Katie Britt 'Fundie Baby Voice' down pat!
The buffalo 'harvesters' didn't need no pussified semi-autos to wipe out the buffalo one round at a time did they? https://www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-american-buffalo . The series is about the time when politicians, capitalism, "Manafest Destinty", and poor people got together and really whooped it up!

Gee, it appears that you haven't upgraded your list of preferred insults. I understand your need for your potty-mouth routine, but you can do much better.

Remember, do not let your afore mentioned vast experiences on another thread that is running concurrently with this one go to waste!

As opposed to the sickos who can't tell the muzzle-end from the stock??

I hate to disappoint you, but it doesn't take an AR-15 to put anyone's mortal backside in danger. The following firearm shown is totally able to put your backside in mortal danger at ranges out to 1000 yards.

The Tryon Creedmore was a .45 caliber target rifle designed and produced in the mid-1800's. It's a percussion cap, muzzleloading rifle, with a 1:21" twist, and a barrel length of 32 5/16". In 2006, I used a similar rifle to hit a steel silhouette of a bison at 1000 yards.

The rifle Matthew Quigley used, a Sharp's 1874, chambered in .45/110, is used to this day in rifle matches all around the country.

PS - It's highly unlikely that an AR-15, chambered in 5.56mm NATO, could touch the target at that range.
