Great set, Doc. I'm curious to see how our long drought affects the dragonfly season. I'll bet it ain't good.

Thanks Ken. Well, I can tell you that the same species may or may not be back. Other species may replace them however. There is no reason for any of them to hang around that area if the habitat changes that much. I saw a great deal of that happen in the Austin area after their extended drought.

Waiting for flight season 2024 here in southeast Pennsylvania. A few migrants might show up in a few weeks but for now here are a few of my favorites from the archives. They are mainly from: Arizona, Florida, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Texas. I shoot with a Canon 80D, EF 300mm f/4L prime and 37mm of extension tubes. I hope you enjoy them.

Thank you so much Howard. It was a lot of fun shooting them in so many different locations with some old dragon hunting friends.

Doc, I’ve enjoyed your photos over the past few years. Are you an entomologist?

No, I’m what they call a citizen scientist. I’ve been studying Odonata for the past 14 years. I photograph, collect data on them and report it to Odonata Central at UT Austin.
I’m glad you’ve enjoyed my work. I started putting it on the forum to try to get others interested in these amazing creatures. I get PMs from all over for identification of damsels and dragons. Anything I can do to help. I found that is what this group of wonderful people is all about.

Oh Rob, I really appreciate that fine commentary on my work. You’re going to give me a big head a start me believing I’m a real photographer. I shoot these creatures as records, to collect data and in certain way and angles to get field markings for exact identification. I should take the time to try to do some real artsy shots like the photographers on this forum.

Thanks. I also enjoy photographing odonata but don't go as in depth as you do. Nice work. I enjoy your postings.
