As with several on this thread, I bought my Olympus TG-7 to use while kayaking and hiking in general. I do go on hikes specifically to take pictures where I bring my Sony A7R IV... BUT here is another use for these smaller, multi-capable cameras --- as a 'first' camera for pre-teens and even lower elementary school students who go on hikes with parents. I have recommended either one to a couple of friends whose kids have gotten curious about what they see...with the suggestion that the kids "take a picture" and use that to explore the subject of the photo more. It has become a new 'activity' when they go on hikes and trips... The cameras are easy to use, yet produce very good, sharp pictures which encourages the youngsters because they can see the photos after they get back home.

What pocket cameras do you keep in your cars? Some of the ones discussed in this thread cost from near, to well over $1000 dollars. Where do you live? Temperatures in the summer where I live hover between 100 and 110 F. I would imagine that it's more like 120 to 130 in my car when it's parked outside. I don't keep anything of value in my cars. My phone is my "just in case" camera. If I'm going out for the purpose of taking pictures, I'll take a "real" camera.

I keep a Canon G7X Mark III in my car most of the time, and live on Long Island, New York. Temperature, because of the ocaen and sound breezes, is mostly temperate 30's-40's throught winter and 75-85 most summer days.

Unless you get one of the top versions of a phone, they are fine for Facebook and Instagram which probably 99% of photos end up. I use my Canon EOS-R but I am looking to buy a more compact Canon that can be used for taking pictures for my service club events and isn't too complicated for almost anyone to use if I am not there.

The Canon and the Nikon cost me less than $200 each . That's the purpose of a pocket camera. Small , cheap and not very atrractive. It doesn't look big and expensive. I live in West Texas and it does get hot. I drive Sabaru Outbacks (which are like a station wagon). (Pocket cameras slide under seat and out of sight. ) I crack the sunroof just to let hot air escape. The rear section has a cover, that hides a lot and there is an car alarm system that notifies my cell phone.

I have never in 60 years of doing this... had a break while traveling.

Had one once while parked in my own driveway. There was nothing in the car to steal.

Guessed that might be the case. I shoot a Canon G9X Mark II and love it.

I have a Sony RX100VA and the OMS TG-6. The Sony takes better pictures, but the TG-6 isn't bad. Plus, if my grandkids are playing around with the TG-6, I don't have to worry about it even when they are in banshee mode.

NOT in any way current, but my Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS6 12mp 12x is my current best of class pocket camera.
[I DO have a collection of Kodak Pocket Cameras that do NOT compare well to the Lumix]
Considering my only DSLR is my Nikon D3100, the Lumix does have immage stabilization lacking in the Nikon.
My Photography budget IS somewhat limited, so I focus on GREAT DEALS on Tailing Edge technology.

Are there any cameras that meet this criteria that are bad? Or are we splitting hairs
