Need remote shutter/intervalometer for new Z8

I recently purchased a Nikon Z8 and am interested in a remote shutter release that will reduce possible shaking during shooting and also provide for an intervalometer function. I have looked at many on Amazon and elsewhere but so many of them seem to have so many poor reviews for reliability and quality. I would appreciate input that other Hogs may have had with various remote shutter controls that are compatible with the Z8 (many of the ads for remote devices when I Google them do not seem to be up to date on applicability to the Z8. I have to presume that if it has the 12 contact device or is listed as working on the Z9, it must also work on the Z8, but I may be wrong.)

Thank you.

Scotty

Ins't there a menu option that would do that? Time-lapse comes to mind for pre-determined intervals.

As to remote shooting, I can do that and more using snapbridge on my phone. Download the version for your camera.

Why not just use the camera's interval timer?

I appreciate the quick replies, especially since they are from people whose opinions I generally agree with. I have had very poor luck with Snapbridge and I really mostly need the remote shutter. At 83, I’m not as stable as I once was and I have a very stable tripod. I was hoping that some might have recent experience with remote shutters for a Z8.

SAVH....I just bought my z8 today and have not gotten into the menu structure yet. But it fires off using the same 10 port that all the higher end Nikons have used for more than 15 years. In most situations I use the plunger style remote to reduce vibration when shooting off a tripod. Yes the camera has an internal intervalometer.

If you really really want an external one then the Nikon MC36 works great. They are expensive buggers so I have bought them used where you can find them for $60-$80.

The 10 pin style has been used by D200, 300,500, 800, 810, 850, D2, D3, D4, D5, D6 & Z9

B&H offers several choices. For a remote, I use (and love) my Vello 10 pin which is now $ 72.50 @ B&H. (Vello is a B&H house brand!). Best of luck.

What's wrong with the one that's built in?

Use the 5-second pre-shutter timer.

Contact Nikon...Using D-500 & D-850 I had purchased Vello intervalometers I returned them & got new ones, the issue in plugging them in to the port, is the knurled knob that screws onto the port is impossible to work with & the threading was incorrect. I bought the Nikon intravolometer (MC-36A)..original model is mc-36. Took about 10 seconds to screw it on & I have used it on my Z-8 as needed...The ONLY issue I do not like & have seen several users write about is when you plug in the batteries, it powers on instantly...No On/Off switch...I have as of yet left the batteries in to see if unit goes to sleep. I have as of yet to try the Z-8 Timelapse modes

I have an old Vello that functions both wired and wireless. It served me well for years when I used Olympus e System cameras. Now, my current Canon cameras have built-in intervalometers.

I have had this MC-30 for 20+ years; I first got it for my D2X. I was amazed to find that the Z8 had a 10-pin connector on the front., but I use this all the time when I need a cable release. They are still available, but they are not cheap.

The Verllo ShutterBoss II should fill your want. Note that the instructions included are not correct as it must be turned on to function for single image release. Apparently there was a change that did not get into the printed instructions.

The Nikon MC-36A it's a wired connection and a Nikon WR-R11a it's remote. Use them on my D850, D6, Z8 and Z9. The Z9 has a menu item that does Interval timer shooting. Haven't check it out on the Z8. Check them out at Nikon and see if they will do what you need.

It's been said but yes, there is a built-in option but my Vello FreeWave goes everywhere my camera goes and they are not terribly expensive. It has a range of about 300'. like I would ever get that far away from my beloved D 750 but it has come in handy.
