In 1955, I was in my sophomore year at Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU) and one of my friends bought Erroll Garner's album, "Concert By The Sea". We listened to it in his dorm room. He and I were trumpet players. I was absolutely enthralled with the album, so I purchased one. I played it to "death". Erroll Garner had no piano lessons. His interpretations and arrangements were sheer magic to my ears. Erroll never loses sight of the melody. Eventually, many years later, I purchased the CD. This album began my new "modern jazz" collection.
Here is the album. I hope you derive as much joy from it as I have:

MJQ is absolutely one of my favorite jazz ensembles.

Mark,
My father turned me on the Erroll when I was a kid. I own all his work. This album is one of my favorites. I love hearing him "grunt" the melodies as he plays. A true jazz master.
Yeah, I borrowed that album from the library-what a revelation it was-and is.
