I am going on an Alaskan Cruise soon and was wondering if there is anything that I can put my camera in to protect it from potential rain. I would like something that will protect is with a lens attached while being attached to my neckstrap around my neck as I am hiking/walking. Any suggestions?

Have a great vacation. In my camera bag, I have an OpTech RainSleeve. I also have a Ruggard Rain Cover. There really isn’t much difference. But when we were at Niagara Falls everyone was protecting their cameras except me.

But can these be used while still attached to a camera strap?

i get shower caps from the hotels that I stay in. They are easy to use, cheap, they work and you can throw them away when you are done with it

I use a neoprene cover that fits over the body and lens. I got it from B&H. If it is raining hard, the camera stays in the backpack with a rain cover. I pull it out when I want to shoot. My wife keeps an Olympus Tough waterproof point and shoot in her fanny pack.

It all depends on the camera and lens.

Many cameras and lenses can handle rough weather. I usually carry a towel in case I have to have to wipe some water off.

Rain soon in Alaska? Not going to happen too soon according to National Weather Service. Snow is much more likely for the few months.

Yes sir, I think my camera (Nikon D7200) is suppose to be able to handle rain but i dont know about the lens (Sigma 100-400, Nikon 18-140) I just want to make sure I do not ruin my camera as I can not afford a new one! haha

Gallon size zip lock bags. Close the zip lock in the middle so straps can come out of the bag at the ends of the zip. Not perfect, but cheap, easy to find, and functional. Using one bag inside another gives a bit more protection against water running down the straps and into the bag.

Protects from mist and light rain. In heavy rain shove the entire strap in the bag with the camera, zip it shut and put the whole thing away.

I use a Walmart plastic bag with a biggie rubber band, works great. Really great, and best of all, it is free and takes up very little room in your pocket when not in use.

Get an oversize poncho. Don’t cost much money, take up no room in your backpack.

I don’t like camera straps as I find them cumbersome around my neck. I have used the Ruggard version on a tripod and the OpTech version when holding in my hand with a wrist strap. The latter covers the camera and the arm that holds the camera. I also keep a towel in my car. If I have a spill or if water gets inside my bag it is absorbed.
