To all whom chimed in there. I'm 78 on 2 blood pressure meds & getting ready for a reverse shoulder replacement. My neck is completely fused & have had lower back surgery a few years ago. Otherwise I feel like I'm doing fairly well ! I'm saying a Prayer for each of you that your health does not diminish. Y'all are sure right about getting old is not for sissies !

Glad to hear you are doing good. If ever the docs start giving you more meds to counter a side affect of your current meds that you end up with a table full of daily meds, get a second & third opinion until they give you the minimal meds for what is being treated with the least amount of side affects.
With that said, about 5-6 years or so ago, my brother tells his wife he doesn't feel rite . She tells him it is probably something he ate. He calls his doc & they bring him in rite away. Rushed him to the hospital & within hour performed a double bypass. Just saying. Better to err on the safe side!

Unfortunately our bodies break down faster than we expect. I'm glad that you're on top of your condition and not letting it go as some do. Take care, Frank.

Great news to hear that you are doing well. My doctor told me not to worry about my heart for it was guaranteed to last a lifetime.😁

Got a pulse/ox and a blood pressure machine as well as a wireless heart monitor in my house that regularly reports to the Dr. Looking at Kardia; have to figure out how to set one up. Dr. didn’t feel it was necessary with the others stuff I have as well as my implanted defribrilator/pacemaker. Still thinking about the Kardia, though, if I can figure out how to set it up on my phone. In 15 years, the defib has only shocked me once legitimately, about 8-10 years ago. Dr. worked on heart after that and it has never gone off again; in fact he has felt confident enough to have taken me off medication for the condition.

Sounds like you have it in hand. With the Kardia, you just install the ap on your phone. To use, you choose “record my EKG” and hold it in both hands with the “v” logo upside down - I place my thumb on each pad. When you grip it correctly, the display will turn green and it will record for 30 seconds. At the end, it will show the EKG (which you can scroll through), show your heart rate, and say: “normal heart rhythm” or “unclassified” if the rhythm is not consistent. It also gives you the option to save as a pdf. You can attach that pdf to a text and send to your MD.

Back in 2015 I had my yearly checkup and the EKG found an anomaly which called for a Cardiac Cath.
As they were prepping me for the Cath. a nurse ask me what med I was on, Told her allergy meds. and B/P meds. she said at your age, that's all yep. Well they took care of that !!
The Cath. revealed some minor blockage in one small artery now on now on five meds. But they worked for a long time.
A Sunday morning this feb. I woke up with a tightness in my chest @ 1:00 a.m. it didn't hurt but it wasn't normal
I had been having these twinges that lasted never more than a min and my cardiologist and I decided to just keep an eye on them.
Sunday morning at 4:00 am I went down the road to the Ambulance House and the medics ran a strip and found nothing going on, Monday morning I called Dena left a message , she called back a little later, the told me to increase one med by 50% and not over 100% and come in Tues. unless I didn't get relief well the 50% didn't help so 20min I took another 50% and got relief almost immediately .
Wed morning they ran a strip and nothing was showing up, So time for another Cath. Fri. Talked to the surgeon and told him it the blockage was marginal to go ahead with the stint he agreed, well now I have the stint and three more meds. But everything is back to normal. Dena told me I might still have the twinges but with time they should diminish.
Our hike to Greer Spring the weekend before last was a test, I passed !!!

Well, everyone has their story, here’s mine.

In December of 2016 I went to the emergency room after feeling really “tired.” Since I have very good insurance, they used all their toys and did lots of tests on me. What a good thing! Along with a minor heart attack, they also found cancer in my lung. So, after surgery, I had 2 stents and just 1-1/2 lungs. I felt great.

A few years later I had to have 2 more stents. But then I felt great again.

In 2022, things went a bit pear shaped, and I ended up with 3 more stents, a cardioversion and an ablation. Again things have been great — well, until now. Now it’s time to figure it all out again. But no one is going to tell me that I am too old (81) for things to be corrected.

As my daughter tells her little ones, “Suck it up, buttercup.”

I have 7 stents in my heart. Mine I believe were stress induced from work. I retired 2 years after my last procedure and the stress is gone. I have lost 75 lbs since I retired in 2019. I used to have what they called angina pain which sounds like what you are having. Recently, my blood pressure was very low and had been for a few months. The cardiologist did some tests. He had me reduced my blood pressure meds. I now am not taking any blood pressure meds, but I am still on a beta blocker and effient which keeps my blood thin. I have a few other things from my days in the military but I feel like I am lucky. I get all of my healthcare through the VA and my health is better now than 5 years ago. What I have learned is to smell the roses. Take time for yourself. Take a course or get involved in a group where you can be around people. Socialize.
