At this point I am quite sure that the words at the bottom of the pot said "Made by Ikemon of Kanjoen”. So no need for a translation. Now is the pot authentic or it's a copy made to look like the genuine article? I don't know but I do think it's genuine.

Then the prisoner is in the USA. I don't think China has fortune cookie factory.

I found this listing on Ebay. Your pot does look identical to the one on Ebay.

HaHa, that was my listing from what I was told a while back. I took it down until I verify what I was told back then. If it's a copy of the original, it's worth a fraction of what an original is worth. Copies I've seen don't have any identification on them. We're in no hurry to sell so I'll wait until someone can interpret what's on ours.

Have you tried Google Lens?

Yes, some very similar have no markings on them at all. Those are copies made recently.

If the pot is genuine it was made in the 19th century and early 20th century (1911 at the latest) and I don't think they put the made in on products at that time. So if it said made in Japan then it's not real. I knew you were joking but you gave me the idea to further investigate.

Previously I was told it was signed by the artist, not where it was made. I'm trying to verify that. Hope someone can read it.

But did you in the listing say that you knew what the words mean?

According to the listing on Ebay the words mean "Made by Ikemon of Kanjoen”.

That was on my post and is what I'm trying to verify.

Yes, because of what I was told. Now want to verify from someone else to be sure. I don't want to misrepresent the item.

I'd say it is Chinese vs japanese. Japanese characters are less complicated, generally.
I believe there are sites on the web that will translate these.

Thanks. I found the lost information from back a few years ago and it was from Amanda Miller at Bonham's who is an Asian arts expert. She had sent me this; Japanese Seto ware. Signed 還情園 池紋製 - Kan Jō En Ike Mon Sei - or “Made by Ikemon of Kanjoen”. This Seto kiln was led by 加藤紋右衛門 - Kato Monemon whose art name was Ikemon and of Meiji period. The piece was made to hold hot tea or hot water. It is a Meiji piece, Ikemon lived till 1911 and the 7th generation Ikemon succeeded the family kiln but did not continue operation of Kanjoen.

Then I googled the maker and found this;Kato Monemon 6th 六代 加藤紋右衛門.

All that information took hours of digging to find it again. I forgot where the information came from, that's why I wanted to verify it. I trust her. Mystery solved. Thanks again for your help.

So how much is it worth now that you know that it's genuine?

I have a friend who is Japanese. I've passed the photo of the pot along to her to see if either she or her father can translate it.
