I hear lots of bad things about timeshares and timeshare presentations. My wife and I once owned four of them, and there was never a problem. Well, let me modify that. Getting rid of them was difficult. The only way we found to unload them was to "donate" three of them to the Florida Veterans Benefit, and we had to pay to do that. We gave one to friends.
We had a place on Cape Cod, Orlando, and Virginia Beach. I forget where the other one was. We bought them at low prices, paid the low annual maintenance fee, and used them every year. We traded the small unit in VA Beach for a large place on the Big Island - three times, for two weeks each stay. Maybe we were just lucky, or maybe the complaints are exaggerated. Of course, looking at the entire process financially, we probably could have done better if we had made all the travel arrangements ourselves, but overall, I think we got good value for what we spent.
Stay away. Stay far, far away.

My late wife had a time left after she was widowed, she had only used it once before we married, After almost three years of haggling told her to let me handle it!! It only took me 20 mins on the phone to get rid of it, I told the Guy on the phone she had passed away, when He ask for proof I told him to contact the Coroner !!!and hung up. never heard from him again.

Jerry et al!
There's a timeshare secondary market and companies who deal with them. If one wants one (or more!), do it for less!
My brother and SIL have had one for ages and enjoy using it every year!
Be well! Ed

Just returned from our annual 3 weeks on Kauai at our timeshare. This is about the 25th year. We have traded it several times for stays in such places as New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico and Malaysia. We’ve been fortunate to meet friends on Kauai. This time I was comp’d three whale watching trips by a friend who will be going fishing in Montana, staying at our mutual friends timeshare. When we decide we’re too old to travel we will give them to our three daughters to have an annual reunion week or separate weeks as they see fit. We pay an annual maintenance fee of just under $2700.00. The condo is located across the road with a modest beach and one of the better restaurants on the island. Great snorkeling and within walking distance of the dive shop we frequent. Had dinner at the dive shop owners so they could try out their new pizza oven. Ours is far from the horror stories I’ve heard. In Mexico the time share salesmen were vultures an my wife will never return there. They start right as you leave the airplane terminal. Certainly our use of the time share is not typical and you really have to examine if it fits your lifestyle. The resale market is the place to look, never buy from the developer.
Over the last 30-plus years our major vacationing has been by using a Timeshare Property in Mazatlan, MX. And we're on for another 3 weeks this coming Christmas Season. We, the Timeshare Owners, maintain a website where their extra weeks or nights are offered to the public for rent or for sale. Our use and ownership has been and is a very enjoyable positive experience.
