Your quote, " I don't need no stinkin' mirrorless camera" yet you already owned a Z50, what gives with your wrongly worded post?

What you never noticed the mirror inside the Z50?

Nope, I don't need no stinkin' mirrorless camera and I fer sure don't need no stinkin' full frame. I don't even shoot raw. But they kept it up, they kept showing me stuff till the rationalizer kicked in and my tiny rat brain went to work. What if I get a really good deal on a camera that I really, really want where I can get away with my present lenses for some time to come with no further expense and it will do everything my D7500 and my Z50 will do combined, plus have room for more tricks later if I want to learn them? The pressure was too much. Z7ii on the way. I don't even have the camera yet and I already spent $70 on a memory card (and that was on sale!) and as soon as I get the body to make sure all is well, another $50 or so for a card reader since my old one has no CFExpress type B slot. Might just need another dedicated monopod and maybe a ball head. So much for no further expenses... ah, but then I'll be a really, really great photographer, right? (Did I tell you about the 180-600 they keep showing me?) 😁

Well I can understand. Back in 2022 I had to sell my D7200 (and D3300) and all the lenses to raise some temporary cash while the house I was living in was on the market for sale - I had mostly FX lenses too as I was anticipating getting a FF DSLR. Well the house sale changed my plans as I was not planning on getting rid of the D7200 which was more than fine for me too - "I didn't need no stinking mirrorless or full frame either!" I was planning on jumping to another system like Fuji X-T5 or X-HS2.

Well later in 2022, having some funds to splurge, I decided to try a refurb Z6ii with a 24-70 f/4 lens. They refer to the lens as a "kit" lens but it is so good IMO. Then in 2023 I expanded with a few used F lenses, FTZii, and then later added the Z7ii refurb. Love both of these cameras. They feel like butter in the hands compared to the D7200 actually. Having no mirror slap really makes the difference. There are also many other benefits of course, such as being able to adapt so many lenses for one. In retro, I probably should have waited a bit for a Z8 refurb. The Z7ii is a great camera you will like it. I am looking forward to a Z50ii or the much rumored "Z500", but don't hold your breath I am told.

That is exactly how it went with me, and then continued on as I decided to trade the Z7II for a Z8. The CFExpress card, the new monopod, the card reader, and also, as mentioned, the spare battery. I also got the 80-600, just had to have that. Your journey may not be over yet...

I hope it's not over yet, but my next birthday will be a pair of sevens, so you never know what's gonna happen one day till the next. In any case, the Z8 or whatever is next will have to wait till I build up the war chest again since I just bought a computer on top of all the rest. One of the deal sealers was the battery... it matches (or close enough) all the D7xxx series and the Nikon 1 V1, so I've got a pile of those and Big Mike's "two batteries and a charger" deal for under $50 isn't too shabby and I've had decent luck with them so far. Hopefully, this will quell GAS attacks for a year or two.

The aforementioned monopod was a birthday present to myself just last Weds. when I turned 81, and I'm still buying stuff. When I go, my poor wife is going to have to find a way to get rid of all this...

You need a great Chief Financial Officer. My wife won’t let me buy another cup of coffee without her permission!

PS Use your New camera well! Congratulations.

I'm considering the 180-600 but the 200-500 is my current super-zoom and most likely will be for a while yet. The 180-600 has one very desirable feature the 200-500 doesn't have. That is the internal zoom feature. The fact that the lens doesn't extend when zooming, makes it better for weather and dust proofing. You will not regret getting the z7ii. I enjoyed using it a lot before selling it to get a z8.

If no one buys a new camera, there is no resale market for some photographers and eventually there would be no Nikon, Canon, etc. If you are not "taking food off the table or not paying the rent," then opting to buy a new piece of photography equipment is just fine.

Eventually “wants” develop into “needs”. Stuff happens. Ask me about the 75 inch QLED TV I just “needed” and bought. Now I need to suppress my urge for the just released Fujifilm X100VI that is being advertised (I did not place an order for this!). Enjoy your new Z7II!

I'm sure you deserve it. Enjoy your new equipment and stop berating yourself. I doubt there is ANYONE on this site that hasn't caved for one item or another.
