The best kind of phone. You always know where it is.

I really miss the 3 days lost service any time we had a heavy rain. Or the time it quit because a nest of ants had built their house in the pedestal at the end of the lane. Or when lightning would strike near the line and make the phone ring one time. And the best part was the party line. As a kid, our teenage neighbor had a girlfriend and they’d call each other and when they ran out of things to say, they’d just set there with the silence punctuated occasionally by a heavy sigh. My dad was a kid in the hand crank phone days. His aunt and the neighbor ladies would all get on the phone at the same time for a big hen party. When those old gals couldn’t talk fast enough in English they’d switch to German and really go then. Sometimes so many people would be on the line at once that the volume got so low nothing could be heard and a few would have to hang up.

Some things never change such as women talking on phones. The only thing that changes is the method they use.

We have one too. I heard that the Gen Xer’s are getting land lines. I find that surprising.

We have a semi landline. We have quite a few accounts tied to our landline number but we live in the countryside so we were constantly having the same previously mentioned issues. We now have a box that is a cell phone without internet capabilities. It does have a backup battery that lasts surprisingly long in case of power outages. We mainly switched because they promised cheaper bills than At&t. Main difference I see is they don’t charge for long distance calls.

Did the same thing a couple of years ago. Got tired of AT&T charging such a high price, and got a simple flip phone to use for a house phone. Had to learn how to use a flip phone again. But not my main phone & less than half what my old landline cost.

Get it surgically implanted in the palm of your hand, like all of these walking and talking dummies appear to have done..

We still have our landline, primarily for emergency use because it still works when the power is out. AT&T wants to eliminate landlines in our part of California now.
