YouTube last night - Sabine Hossenfelder.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh_hNvGTmIg&t=58sThe Department of Defense used AI to simulate a real-world situation involving a few imaginary countries. They were surprised and concerned at how quickly the AIs resorted to nuclear war, in one case, just to prevent the other side from going nuclear. ChatGPT was the worst, resorting to nuclear quickly without much need for it. In general, all the AIs found that nuclear war was the answer, whether there was a sufficient reason or not.
Remember "Colossus: The Forbin Project"?

Yes, that's mentioned on the video.
Remember the "Terminator"?

How about the 1983 movie "WarGames" starring Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy? What is the best way to play the game of "Global Thermonuclear War?" "The only winning move is not to play!"
Be well! Ed
Why spend all the money to develop nuclear weapons when all you have to do is control those of others via AI-invasive software? Iran, North Korea, China, or a lone wolf terrorist could grab control of America's (or Russia's) network and make it appear as though Russia has launched missiles toward the U.S. (Or vice versa). America will quickly respond with a launch of its own. Russia will see them coming toward them and launch a retaliation strike. The U.S. and Russia will destroy each other as the bad guy sits back and watches the fireworks.
Used Colossus in a Sci-Fi lit course with HS Juniors almost 20 years ago. Was unsettling then. All too real now.

Let's not omit Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game". Read the book instead of watching the movie.
