Google Chromecast

I've been using Google Chromecast for a few months instead of Firestick or Roku. When I turned on the TV last night, it said I was signed out, and I would have to sign in again. I entered my password, and then it said it had to make sure it was me. This is where it all fell apart. I could use my phone, even if it was unavailable or turned off. I could also use a tablet. Google then said it sent me a code. There was no code. If I did receive the code, I would have to go through five other steps to prove that I am me. Using Chromecast, all I could do was look at miscellaneous YouTube channels.

I'll say goodbye to Chromecast today and go back to either Firestick or Roku. Walmart now has a streaming device for, I think, $30.

I have three browsers on my computers: Firefox, Google Chromecast and Microsoft Edge. My go-to browser is Firefox but I use Chromecast for Ugly Hedgehog and to log into my bank. I don't use Edge, it just came with the computers and I haven't bothered to uninstall it.

Do you mean "Google Chrome"? Chromecast is a streaming device, like Roku and Firestick.

OK, Chrome then. At least now I can unwatch and delete this thread.

Everyone seems to be using the "send a code" method of proving who one is nowadays. It's sort of annoying, but if it stops scammers, it's OK. But I have had difficulties when my phone was out of juice and I couldn't retrieve the code! I had to do it with Amazon the other day. And my credit card company uses it also.

Yes, but google (and Apple too, I think) send a code to (their authentication app on) one of your other devices, but don't tell you which device. They just say "check your other devices". I agree with Jerry, it is very annoying.

I found a text from Google on my phone yesterday. I had expected an email. I tried to use Roku, but I couldn't find a remote that would control it, although I tried several. I finally got the Firestick working, but the remote doesn't control the TV, so I need two remotes. Modern life is so difficult! 😂
