Larry - although Rockwell doesn't have a write-up on this specific model, there's other reviews online. You've probably already seen? Given the camera dates to roughly the F4 era at Nikon, you might find more useful lens references when looking at compatibility of the F4. You said 'inexpensive'. Maybe the Nikon 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 AF-D around $125 (used) doesn't meet that threshold, but that would be a useful FX zoom range w/ AF I'd consider for this film camera. There's a chart in Rockwell's F4 review that gives a list of compatible Nikon lenses that give more ideas to investigate.

Didn't buy a camera during that period and didn't realize that there were so much incompatibility during that period of time. I went from the F3 bought in 82 and to the F5 bought in 2002. I do have the F4 which was of the same period as the 8008 but I got the F4 for free in the 21st century.

Thanks .......This minty 8008S is one I used to merely test any Nikon lenses I might find before I put them up for sale and the only Nikon I have ever owned. As part of of my spring cleaning, I will be putting it up for sale and thought it might sell quicker/better with a lens. After MUCH investigations and thought, I have come to think that a 50mm f1.4, while not the cheapest option, may be the best facilitator for selling - that way I can somewhat tap into the collector as well as the user market ....Nikonians seem to have a high respect for the 50 1.4 ...

As stated earlier, I believe I have this lens “ Nikon AF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5D Macro” that I may be willing to part with if interested. I haven’t used it in a while so I would need to ck it out.

But the 50mm f/1.4 is worth several times the N8008s body. If you buy the lens then sell as a kit you may only get the money you spent on the lens back.

I had that lens. Ken Rockwell reports favorably on it, and I can tell you from personal experience that it is sharp. It is also light and has a built-in lens hood that slides forward past the front element. The down side is that it only focuses to 3 feet. That's why I replaced it with the 28-105, which is equally sharp and focuses to 1:2 in the macro mode. I gave away the 35-105 to my son in-law. He's my "dump" for all of my equipment that I no longer use.

Maybe, .......but, I just ordered on ebay an AF 50mm f1.4 - the made in Japan version - NOT the Chinese version - for $107 delivered + tax......

So I will see .....

Is it a D version? or non D? D version made in Japan is quite rare as they only made them in Japan for a short time.
