I just checked out some of your photographs on on your account on Flicker. You’ve done phenomenal work with your lens you are to be commended.for some phenomenal photographs

Thank you very much! I am lucky to be retired and still able to handle this lens and take it out to photograph. I am not sure how much longer I can deal with its size/weight (I am 74), but plan to get the most out of it while I still can. Enjoy yours! The longer lenses allow one to observe and photograph wildlife at an increased distance, making it much less likely one disturbs their activities. Only wish this lens had been available sooner! And have a great trip to Alaska, it is one of my favorite places to go.

Tripods are useful for nests or wildlife that is staying in one place (and I have one and use it occasionally). However, if the wildlife (like a bobcat) is moving around, adding a tripod is just one more thing one has to carry plus in the time it takes to set up (even a couple of seconds), one can miss the key action.

Well you definitely made the right decision to reward yourself with the 800mm lens! It will be perfect way to do some weight lifting exercise as you go out and photograph wildlife. I hope I will still be able to do it when I catch up with you in age though feel I am aging fast. Maybe you can show us some of your photos with this new lens.

Absolutely, as I have not had a chance to even take any test photos yet but soon as I do, I will most certainly post them. It’s been a pleasure speaking to you your truly Owen.

This is the only photo that I have because the weather hasn’t been great here I stood out in front of my house and pointed my 800mm lens way way way down the street almost beyond eyesight and captured this
