SanDisk downloads to computer not working

For years I've either plugged in my Sony via USB cable or have physically removed the SanDisk & used a dongle to download pictures to my computer. Today I removed the SanDisk, plugged it into the dongle & the dongle to my computer via USB and when I clicked on the drive that I thought it was in, it came up with a .pdf file for instructions for SanDisk Secure Access - Quick Start Guide. I really didn't understand what I was supposed to do. I even put the disk back into the camera and tried to access my pictures files with the USB cable that came with the camera originally, and that came up with the same message. All I wanted was access to my picture files as I've done for years. Has anyone else run into this problem? Thanks for reading inquiry.

Any change you have your camera set to "shoot without card"?
Almost sounds like the card might not have been seated properly ("no card").
And the camera was off before you removed the card, correct?

No, I wouldn't even know how to do that. A month ago I was able to bring up all the pictures on the disk and transfer the newest ones to my computer and I did it through the dongle instead of plugging the USB cable into the camera. I'm at loss as to understand why San Disk wants me to download a program that may not even be compatible with Windows 10 as it doesn't mention more than Windows 8 on the requirements. Thanks for your response.

It's a program that Sandisk provides on their cards. I delete them.

The camera was off when you pulled the card, correct?

Oh, yes. I always turn the camera off when I pull the disk. How do you delete it and where do I have to go in my computer to do that? I've never run across any programs from San Disk before. Thanks for you persistence. ;-)

I delete it (them) via my computer (Explorer) when I plug the card into the reader.

Is Explorer showing any folders on the card?
I have a DCIM folder where the images are placed. (The camera creates it.)

If the camera can display your pix on its own screen then this sounds like an error in using Windows Explorer. Maybe time to check your Windows user guide book(s).

You must have the Sandisk Secure Access on the card and it prevents unauthorized access to the contents.

I don't know how that could have happened as its the same card I've had for about 4 years. I did get in touch with Sony and they suggested that I put their program that comes with the camera on my computer, Play Memories, however, I who save EVERYTHING, can't find the box the camera came in where I believe there was a CD with that program on it. The tech I texted with sent me a link to the Play Memories and I can get my files open on that, but there doesn't seem to be an option for copying the files and sending them elsewhere on my computer. I know I had it on my old computer, but never thought to put it on this new one as I hadn't had any problem accessing photo files until today. Anyway, I really really appreciate your interest and help as your suggestions pushed me in the right direction.

I believe you placed your SanDisk into a "card reader". A "dongle" us usually used as a serial number/permissions device for a high-end expensive program.

When you see the pictures on Sony’s program can you highlight all of them then just copy them? Control C buttons. Then you should be able to paste them where ever you want…no?

They used to be but now they call everything dongle. The USB to ethernet or USB to display port adapters are called dongles too.

Some people call USB memory sticks a dongle.
I've seen a small card reader that looks just like a USB memory stick.
According to Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dongle
"USB flash drives (more commonly described as "USB stick" or "USB key") is acceptable........
