I expect that CHG_CANON has more insight to the actual stats than we do but as a long time UHH member, I'm not sure Nikon is that over represented. I certainly see a lot of questions and comments focusing on Canon as well as Sony, Fuji, Hasselblad, etc. While I have used Nikon for over 60 years, in addition to being very happy with Nikon, with so many Nikon lenses, it just did not make sense for me to change even as Canon and Sony came up with other amazing new cameras. I just made the shift to a Z8 but expect that is my last camera purchase. I think far too much is made of the Canon/Nikon issue. Both companies make great cameras and excellent professionals use both, so I think most of the "arguments" are just favoritism for what you have. It is sort of like insisting your college is always better than any other.

How come 80% of cameras and gear for sale on here are Nikon ??? Why did you buy it in the first place or are they that bad. From a PENTAX owner. Never had one fail and I have owned 14 of them from film to dige.

Typical Pentax person. Master statistician too.
Meet me at the pub. Ill buy you an ice water.

If you knew how to read the listings you would see that about 25 to 35% of Nikon owners are bailing out. That seems significant. You would also see that 90 to 98% of Pentax owners are bailing out. That seems a bit more significant.

Pentax ??!? Really girl ??!??

Verrrry curious. Did you expect that if you post this every year, year after year, that sooner or later the results would change ?

A recent study found that 68% of the statistics on 37% of the discussion boards are 84% made up.

You've been listening to that delightful Todd Snyder singing the Statistician's Blues.

I'm not going to look at each and every listing, but I do watch them. I get the feeling that some Nikon owners are trying to get rid of older equipment before it becomes worthless. See how much a dealer will give you for a Nikon D810 that may have cost you over 3 grand in 2014. I was offered $400 for mine. I gave it away to my son in-law.

I also notice that the prices asked for some of this old stuff, even ancient stuff like screw drive lenses, is unrealistic. Maybe a person hits the jackpot, but more likely they don't. I'm not saying this about everyone dumping old Nikon equipment, but it's common enough to my eyes to have an opinion.

Just to be "fair & balanced" I should report that the woman at the end of the bar right now has a Pentax ... biggun, too !

Yes, they are really bad! And 86% of the folks selling Nikons are using the money to buy more Nikons! Yeah, they're horrible!

I would see someone trying to sell a Pentax digital and how fast that would sell.

Canon has dominated the camera market since the late 1990s. They've sold more cameras than Nikon since then.
But selling a humongous load of bottom feeders has no effect on what can be observed in the UHH Buy-Sell listings. It just creates meaningless stats.

No I just sold 3 of my 9 ME Supers from my wedding business days. The two K-1000 I have I can still use the lens on my newest DLSR cameras. Pentax has kept the same lens mount from the film days and has always had great glass.

I use several Pentax lenses ... but cant see any uses for their SLRs. Pentax lenses are widely available and affordable, clearly the result of migration. Works for me :-)

A lot of Nikons being sold are DSLRs as people transition to mirrorless. Sony has been mirrorless for so long that most people who shoot Sony already have mirrorless so no need to sell off their DSLRs. I can't speak for Canon but feel there are a lot of Canon shooters that are also transitioning to mirrorless. As for where they are selling off their DSLRs is anyone's guess. You won't see as many Olympus and Fuji simply because the market share they command is much smaller than Nikon, Canon, and Sony.

Doesn't this premise contradict the "user vs tool" axiom?

That "axiom" crops up all over UHH, usually delivered as if its "The Great Wisdom". That alone should inform you that its bogus. Even worse, one version of it is often attributed to Adams, a loud clear warning of its dubiosity.

Nikon was very good with film, not so much with digital. Just my opinion.
